So many toys... so many boxes... just sitting...

Ummm... let's see... this one is fun...

After years of wanting one... 95' Ducati 916 sits in the garage...

Fixing up a J30... as time permits...

Most recently finished building one of these to practice 3-D flying.

Stay in school kids.

G1 Jetfire.

Clearly the bestest transformer, because compared to all the other G1 toys he was fucking huge. He stood nearly as tall as Metroplex and Scorponok, and had way more points of articulation than any other transformer (the toy was a later design than the other G1 business, though ironically the Masashiro VF-1S toy that became Jetfire (with the nose made less sharp and the small easily-swallowed-by-children missiles removed) was the one that kicked off the transforming robot toy craze and made the diaclone/microchanger lines more popular).

My favorite toy?

My 'olden wooden sword.
I'd spend ages running around outside swordfighting with the other kids in the neighbourhood, bashing eachothers skull in xD

...
Good times, good times.

Well, as for my K'nex collection, the parts to make the coaster (and other things) are broken and worn out, but at least we still have it.
You're right, that is the important thing. And besides, is there really anything duct tape can't fix?
The correct answer is no.
...
Yes, even the electric bits.
*tries duct taping K'nex electronic bits* IT'S NOT WORKING!
Duct tape... n-not working??

The end times are upon us.

Anyone remember the Jurassic Park: Chaos Effect toys? Sure, they might have been a bit ugly, but I thought they were awesome... though that might have been because I was big into dinosaurs as a kid...

I had Slizers, those were even cooler. Proto-Bionicles.

As for my coolest toy, I think I'd have to think about that a bit, I generally only really played with Lego, so I didn't have that many particularily cool other toys.

Coolest toy?

Probably a cardboard refrigerator box.

Or a large sand box.

Both let me play what I wanted to play without some corporate marketer getting in the way, and both built actual skills beyond asking my parents to buy me stuff.[footnote]Not that at the time I wasn't furious with my parents for not getting me Optimus Prime or Soundwave for Christmas like all the other neighborhood kids' parents[/footnote] Honorable mention goes to my legos, back before they had cross-brand tie-ins to protect children from ever having to use their imaginations.
Why the snooty attitude?
I had a sandbox and action figures.
They both facilitated me using my imagination.

Can no one anymore just like what they like and not try to come off trying to sound cool/superior because of it?

It sounds like you're reading things into my post that aren't there. Probably shouldn't do that.

My point is that too often toys these days limit children's imaginations. An action figure is who the designers say they are. A cardboard box is whatever a child decides it is. I can forgive action figure makers of doing this because they never pretended to be anything other than what they are, so IMHO the biggest violator in the principle is legos. When I was a kid if I wanted to use my legos to play Star Wars, I figured out how to make Star Wars things out of my legos. Now kids just have to get their parents to buy them the set and follow the directions.
I do understand part of what you mean, and I would even agree, but saying that kids can only play with or have fun with action figures the way the company intended is a bit rash.
I used to really enjoy finding new crazy ways to use my toys.
For example, that TMNT Cyber Samurai toy I posted in the toy thread. Obviously it can be used as intended, as a turtle in cyber gear. Which I did, but I also would pretend it was a mech for a smaller toy to pilot, or even a statue. Just for decoration. I was far from limited to saying "Well that's x toy, so I can't use it for anything else but this", then again perhaps kids today are like this and that is what you were referring to.

I understand the cardboard box thing as well, as I spent long long hours fooling around with them.
I agree wholeheartedly about the legos as well. The newer ones were you build what's on the box rather confuse me, just because I learned lego's in a very different way.

The cardboard box that any of my toys came in. :D

As for things that were made to actually BE toys? Probably the G.I. Joe Aircraft Carrier. I played the hell outta that thing.

My favorite toy was the plastic sword that my Voltron action figure came with. I would just carry that around with me everywhere and chew on the tip of the blade. The best part about it was that I could use it to open any lock. Seriously, I tried it on the front door to the house, my door, my brother's door, and I think one time even the car door. I have no idea where it went, but I now have the sudden urge to find it.

The Mystic Knights of Tir na Nog. No freakin idea about the TV show it may or may not was based on, but the action figures were amazing. Pretty much Power Rangers, except Knights with cool weapons.

Fully pose-able and amazing weapons and accessories.

I think the one I have is Angus the Earth Knight.

Kinda sad that I never see cool action figures like them ever again.

Beyblades were the coolest toys I had, most definitely Beyblades. Well, they were definitely my favorite anyways. For around 3 years, starting when I was about 7, pretty much all of my allowance went towards getting beyblades. And you know what I did whenever I visited my friend's houses? We beybladed. I also customized the shit out of my beyblades, and even the launchers. The only thing that ever went un-customized was the ripcords, because I was not fluent in the usage of super glue at the time and it would probably have stifled the ripcord anyways.
The coolest Beyblade I had was probably that electric remote-controlled one that you could actually control while it was spinning via the launcher. That was some cool stuff right there.

My GameBoy was pretty fun too though, what with growing up during the big Pokemon phase and whatnot, and trading/battling with pretty much anyone, because pretty much anyone and everyone I knew had a Gameboy, Pokemon and a link-cable.

When 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime came out, I came close to buying him many many times. Unfortunately I was a bit poor at the time, and even though I think he only cost $20, I just couldn't justify it to myself.

Now, I'm pretty much kicking myself over it, of course. Every few months I hop on eBay and ponder whether or not I should order one. I still haven't done it. One of these days... :)

Okay maybe I'm hoping on eBay right NOW and looking just for the sake of looking.

Oh man, I had forgotten about those, I had so much fun with them, I still have them under my bed. I would combine them into super crazy combinations and have them fight against each other, or Lego tanks and spaceships, etc, etc, etc. Having an imagination was awesome when you're a kid!

Don't kick yourself over it. Anniversary Prime cost at least $70 when released (I didn't buy mine, a friend gave it to me). All Masterpiece releases have started at the $70 mark as a minimum. Now, if Anniversary Prime had been marked down, which would be entirely unlikely, then you should feel bad :)

MP Soundwave is coming out soon but it's a Toys R Us exclusive. I think he's going to cost $150 because he comes with four or five cassettes.
