What was the Escapist like before the ZP explosion?

Ummm... you've ruined yourself since you sold yourself out to the Escapist you whore? *shrugs* Sorry Mr. Dunne, as much as I ruin things myself (namely standings with people I'm closely related to), I'm terrible at saying how people ruin things.

Anyway, on topic I wouldn't know since I only came here after X-Play started showing bits of Zero Punctuation reviews.

I've no idea, wouldn't have found this place if it wasn't for Yahtzee. And I wouldn't have stayed had it not been for Movie Bob and Extra Credits.

I remember when it was the PDF. Less news, more insider info and stories, some comedy, and editors that had to rely on submissions from non-escapist staff for articles. I'd love to see more of those types of articles on the site, but you can keep the old PDF format.

Zero Punctuation is what drew me into The Escapist year or so ago, and even then i only watch him, Bob and the forums. With out ZP i wouldnt be interested in being on this site at all as their is better sites to get reviews and game info on elsewhere.

If ZP left this site then so would i.

Actually, I think "I Hit it With My Axe" is what did it. Glad they canceled that series. Never liked it myself.

How could hit it with my axe ruin anything? No one watched it. It only ruins the site if it brings in a new community.

Speaking of which how come no one has blamed March Mayhem for ruining the site yet. That gets more whining about the kinds of people coming to the site than anything else. And its funny to me because its why I made an account, in that way I helped ruin the site. Yay me!

I liked the old Escapist because it was a more intellectual take on the game industry. Like an Extra Credits in written form.

I joined because I used to watch a lot of Charlie Brooker and Ashens, and Yahtzee's name got mentioned a lot, so I decided to give him him a look. But I have been here a fair while, but used to lurk far more than post.

I really haven't seen any actual takedowns of the Jimquisition as of yet, merely individuals saying "it's populist" and "stupid"- no backing, just face-value complaints.

im afraid i have no idea. About the oldest thing i remember was that Yahtzee didn't have his own theme song. I think they had some shows, about the only one i remember was de-rez.

People here aren't still like that are they? I don't remember people saying Jim out right ruined the Escapist. I remember that a lot of people openly criticized the style and basically said the videos were shit not that it ruined the website.

OT: Although my account has not been here as long as me I basically came just after Yahtzee did I think it was his 6th or 7th episode and to be honest I don't there are many here that would know. It is getting rare to see someone with a join year or 09 and quite rare to see 08 and you need to double check and screenshot if you see a 07 member in the forums that isn't a contributor. I see my first 06 in months today same a non contributing 07 member(well posting in normal forums that is).

Anyway long winded way of saying as far as I know there wasn't a lot going on around here.
