What was the last game that truly blew you away?

This week i have bought both Dead Space and Fallout 3 on the cheap for my PS3. Both critically acclaimed games that come under very high recommendation. The latter i have only just begun so can't really comment on but Dead Space i found that although entertaining, didn't really strike me as 'incredible.'

Now most of the time i am quite dubious of hyped games (for example Halo, it's certainly not bad by any stretch of the imagination but i failed to see what was so Earth stoppingly great about it) but lately i cannot honestly think of a recent game where i thought 'Christ, i am so glad i parted with my money for this.' The last game i think did this for me was probably DMC3 or FFX. Now being a student i find less and less time for games but the whole thought kinda makes me wonder if i'll ever be blown away by a game again.

Thoughts?

Virtual Hooker '09. That blew me away.

In all seriousness, the last thing that truly got me was Braid. What blew me away was how all the simple puzzles wore complicated disguises and, for once, a game made me think.

Are we talking gameplay? graphics? story? scenery?

gameplay: assasains creed was very free roaming and intuative imo
graphics: crysis, reinstalled this morning and wow it was worth it
story: ffx 10, not since this have i ever got into a game so much
scenery: i know everyone will hate me but Wotlk has some amazing scenery, set pieces and music going through northrend is really immersive

I can be very simple minded sometimes and as a result can be amazed by games every day. Yesterday it was sims 3.....when I realized I played for 13 hours straight.

There are very few games that really make an impression on me, but i'm fairly picky. To be honest 90% of the games i buy feel like a bit of a dissapointment, every now and then though you find a game that makes the search worth while. But here are just a couple that i've taken a real shine to; Deus Ex, Killer 7, Okami and Vampires - The Masquerade Bloodlines.

Oblivion which i think i almost died of starvation during one session. I just couldn't put it down.
The original call of duty which kind of made me like first person shooters, the only first person shooters i had played up to that point were medal of honor games.

Spelunky. I played a lot of this free indie platformer. It's really addictive and well presented but it came out of the blue and goes completely against conventional wisdom about what makes a game good.

Uncharted Drakes Fortune... It was my first game for my ps3, and i did not expect much, but it ended up being my all time favourite video game! It had the best graphics at the time, an amazing story and fun gameplay :D

Truly blew me away, graphics, game, and everything? That would have to be Braid. I finally got around to buying it a few weeks ago, and while the puzzles were top notch and in line with the best brain-bending games out there, the graphics and use of music made it one of the most...profound experiences I've ever had while gaming.

The only game ever to do that for me was Far Cry 2. The graphics, the story...the everything. I was amazed by it. Although a lot of people thought it mediocre, but i was engrossed. One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Half Life 2 and Flower are the only two games that have truly blown me away.

If the whole of MGS4 was like the end of act 4, I'd count that too.

Age of Mythology is pretty damn close.
