I was wondering, what was the last time any of the people here on the boards made a major change in their lives. Or at least, when was the last time you all took a risk.

Myself? I'm currently planning to move to England. I've been planning to move out of the Netherlands myself. I've never really felt in the right place here. Never had a feeling the mentality here was right for me. I'm not kidding when I say never, I didn't fit in as a kid in school. I never liked my place at work. I never connected with friends. Quickly got bored with everything. The friend I've had were always foreigners that moved here. I've had a sense of respect from them somehow. So it's not odd that I wanted to move out of the country myself and wanted to experience whatever it is that they have had to experience.

My first proper trip to foreign-land for me was to England. The carrot that got me to follow the general aim of the stick was Escapism UK. I was in England for a week after a trip, and decided I wanted to move there. I'm currently preparing myself for this. I've started planning for it, all I need now is the funding. I'm realistic about the thing enough to know it won't magically better my life immediately either, before anyone wishes to counter my point. My love for the country isn't directly affected the Escapism event either. I've spent enough time in the country outside of this event to know this.

So, Escapists, what was your last big change, risk, adventure? What is your current one?

Ugh, the last 7 months of my life have been filled with nothing but change. My whole life and identity have been in transition. Partly from discovering and accepting that I'm bisexual, to admitting it to my mom and most of my friends (I have yet to tell any other family) and partly from graduating high school. Not only will I be going to college, but I'll be moving across the country for it.

Overall, I'm happy with it. I'm more comfortable with my identity, but I'm really craving the independence that will come with moving out. And since I have to wait until April to leave instead of October as I'd originally hoped I'm feeling suddenly confined. Hmm, not sure where I was going with this. Lost my train of thought.

Not a strange thing when you're moving on to a new life, I think. I'm not sure where this new life is going to take me to either. Not entirely sure what kind of feelings it's going to leave me with either.

Considering my current position in life, anything is better that what I've got now. You're one of the people following me on Twitter, so you know how I feel about my workplace. I was sure about this, and it has been confirmed; it's shutting down before the end of next year. Today's experiences have proven my friends are douchebags and will continue the, from the point of view, lenient form of contact they've had with me.

The best thing to do is move on. Which I am going to do, in my way. At least when I move, I'm sure to have one great friend in my immediate area, and several good-decent friends in reasonably close enough. Plus if I get to pull this off, I'll have the extra confidence boost from having had pulled all of this off.

Sexuality is a hard thing to be secure in these days, I suppose. I'm straight myself, I'm probably not the best person to comment on this. I have gay and bisexual family members and friends, and I'm completely okay with it. I've had tons of experiences with people mistaking me for being gay as well. I'm still not entirely sure why this is. I'm secure in being straight and have spent time questioning myself simply on the basis of having had gay people stalk me at a few points in my life. I wish you all the best of luck in it.

Good for you, ours is a nice country, its nice to make a positive step in your life.

My risk is coming this christmas. Ive organised this romantic scene for me and an ex in the hope to rekindle our love. I cared for her a lot for about 2 years and it ended rather suddenly. My goal is to iether succeed or find love elsewhere before that time arrives. If she says no then il never persue anything with her again other than friendship. Its an all or nothing leap. I just trust what happens is right for me, il iether be happy i can say it cant happen again or il have her back

Ive also chosen my career path, my university and ive decided to visit america for a year or two to travel and meet people. I really like the country even though i can think of a hundred reasons i shouldnt. I just like its charms. Im doing biochemistry at oxford university and im aiming for a scholar ship, i then might get an internship at syngenta biochemistry research lab i recently visited. Seemed like they did cool stuff, like GM crops. This is after getting mindblowing GCSE results that i didnt expect at all.

Hmmm . . . hard to say. I guess it would probably be deciding not to take my year in France while at uni, which meant that I exited university a year earlier than planned and didn't spend a year of my life studying a subject I didn't like in a country I didn't know in a language I could barely speak. Technically it was a risk, and I'll never know how it would have turned out, but I don't regret deciding not to go. I think an extra year of uni would have destroyed me, plus I'd never have met a particular friend.

That is unless you count the recent decision I made to pursue training as a copy editor. It's not that big of a risk, but it could turn out to be a major change.
Sometimes, the choice in not going with the flow is a good enough choice. You'll never know what it's like to have gone, but if you had gone, you wouldn't have known what you might learn now that you're not going.

Life can be funny that way.

Seems we're in the same boat in this sense. I've gone to the UK, met some amazing people - both during and after Escapism, people I knew before online and people I have never met before, and have fallen for its charms. I can think of enough reasons why not to go. At the same time, I can think of enough reasons to go.

Again, life can be funny that way.

Little bit, mainly about making friends and stuff. Although whenever i tell people what course I'm doing (Law) they all tell me how hard it is... which doesn't exactly help.

I'm pretty excited too, the whole friends thing is just stupid worrying about worst case scenarios, I know I'll probably be fine.

I bought a house in February; after the massive dump the market took, and my lack of conviction in my own financial planning, if seemed like a HUGE task.

So far, so good, though. I'm actually already planning toward an anniversary payment for my first mortgage anniversary, but that's still in the future, and I'm debating if that of a new furnace will be more cost effective, in the long term.

Considering that's the start of a new massive part of your life, I would say it should count.

Buying houses scares me. Then again, so does renting. Let's just keep it at moving to a new house in general. There's so many extra things that can go wrong that'll creep up on you, no matter how well you planned it. Still, the feeling of a new place once you've settled in is an exciting and fun one.

At first, it was all the stupid little things I didn't own, like cutting boards, and snow shovels, and a lawnmower; now I have to remember that I have to pay for the power, gas and water, and that mortgage payment is coming out every second Monday, whether I like it or not.

But it's starting to feel routine to have the money all there. Now, where do I find a couple of hot young female college students how need help with their English and a room to rent?

*leeeeeeeeeeer*

Ahh everyone has the "nobody will like me I'll never fit in" panic...I'm expecting it in the next couple of weeks.

As for law, it might be challenging but you love it, right? So meh! It'll be good fun (probably).

I get similar reactions when I tell people I'm doing Physics *rolls eyes* but hey. I'm seriously excited about freshers ^_^ It's gonna be awesome.

My last big challenge was recording this video! Getting the sound and visual together! They had to be recorded seperately. Harder than it looks for a technophobe!

My entire summer has just been trying to change. Specifically, being more my "true self" in public. When I'm in school or with friends I usually act like a complete asshole, which is the exact opposite of what I really am. So I've been making efforts to become more comfortable being myself when I'm with friends.

Yeah, I'm actually looking forward freshers. The student who took us on a guided tour of the university actually said, "freshers about getting fucked... and getting drunk." This painted quite a picture in my mind as to the fun in store.

And I don't love the law, I'm not even sure why I'm doing it to be honest. Mainly because lawyers get PAID(!!!), but frankly I've never been one for hard work and may have chosen the wrong course.

But fuck it! I'm in now and I'll just have to give it my best.

Where are you going? I'm going to Southampton.

I just quit my job at Best Buy and plan on moving to Georgia around May or, June. Sounds pretty risky to me! I'm not going to be doing nothing though, I've sent out job apps. Just to make things riskier though, I have ordered a tattoo kit and am going to be teaching myself how to use it in order to possibly make that into a living!

I'm living the dream!!
