Wolf 3D, Doom, Doom II, Rise of the Triad, Duke Nuk'em 3D......

I cannot remember the sequence those came out, but I played them all as a young'n. Of course, these were not the most realistic depictions of violence. If I had played Postal 2 or something at that age, I could have become a serial killer. I dunno.

I live in Australia and we don't have 18+. But the first MA 15+ game I played was Dino Crisis 2 for the PS1 at age 5.

Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2 for Windows 98. Still my favorite shooter of all time, with Dead Space coming a close second. Bioshock is basically a HD version of Jedi Knight with System Shock elements thrown in. Of course, Jedi Knight IS the sequel to a LucasArts ripoff of Doom named Dark Forces, but it's still awesome and innovative. If you have a PC that can play it or you can find one of the rare DreamCast ports, PLAY THIS GAME. You don't even have to be a Star Wars fan. Because Kyle Katarn is epic.

So Australians are chiming in with "Well WE don't HAVE an 18+ rating, so here's a pretty mild game for ya" instead of noticing the topic is outside their experience. Original poster, please put up an "Are you from Australia?" poll so they don't have to post this five times a page like a really stale TL;DR. It's like going to a Star Trek convention dressed as Nixon. It's irrelevant, and was only interesting the first twenty times.

EDIT: Fascinating. Turns out some games rated M here are rated 15 over there? I hate censorship, but now I pity Australia's gamers less. And still want California to go stuff it.

One of the GTA games I suppose? Don't really know, never gave a shit about what rating a game has, never had any effect on me or what games I played, I look at the game itself, not a magic number on the cover.

My dad let me try out Company of Heroes when I was 13. I've yet to see any other realistic military strategy game where you can gib infantry units by blowing them up with artillery and tanks.

most of these listed games are rated M which is 17+ not AO(didn't bother raeading all of this). In fact NO STORE in the U.S. sales AO games.
AO doesn't count anyway, because hardly anyone MAKES AO-rated games, and the console manufacturers will not grant licenses to AO-rated games anyway.

Yes but your post is about games that are 18+, and there are rarely any 18+ games. But they do make them, just because you can't find them in stores or a console won't make them doesn't mean you can't find them on PC. This board should be your first 17+ game since that's the highest age rating you can get. And your right console manufactures won't grant a license to a AO game (like man hunt), but there are some PC games that can be considered 18+.

First one that I can remember was the Turok game for the N64 back when I was about 9. Its the game that broke me of being squeamish around blood and gore in games.

I really don't get why that game's not rated T.
It was, but later the ESRB found it came packaged with naked files even though they don't appear in game, so they changed the rating. At least, that's what I heard...

That's a toughie. Maybe Doom or Mortal Kombat when I was 10ish? But that seems a little late.
