Elfen Lied. Anybody read/watch it? It had everything that could probably classify it as mature. including the often missed ability to tell a good story. but people exploding are cool too

Alright so just so you guys know don't say DBZ (unless you saw it uncensored), Pokemon, and any other anime that was shown on a kids channel, because those were edited and kid friendly. This is about your first time watching an anime that was uncensored and mature. I think my first anime was Elfen lied when I first saw it when I was 12, the gore and nudity didn't bother me, and IMO had a great story.

So what's you first mature Anime?

Edit: Alright by "mature" I mean an anime that has a great plot, characters, and makes you feel like your watching something that makes you think.
I would say my first one was Hellsing.
I really liked the vampire plot ^___^ that actually made sense. Alucard was awesome, but I got creeped out by his creepiness in last couple of episodes.

Also, I kinda watched a couple hentai (what, dont tell me guys you didnt do it, because I wont believe you) if that helps.

I've been watching anime pretty regular since I was a kid, and I can't remember if I saw Akira or Key the Metal Idol first.

Akira, aged 12. I thought I was in for a nice Star-Warsy ride, and then suddenly Tetsuo's girlfriend gets her clothes torn off and her face smashed in and I realised this wasn't the droid I thought I was looking for...

Failing that, an uncut ep of DBZ then Saint Saiya when I was 8 at a Japanese friend's house. So. Much. Blood.

Cowboy Bebop's my first.
Then we had Evangelion, Monster, Elfen Lied, Akira, and a few Miyazaki's and Ghibli's.

Just watched the series last week, then read the manga over the weekend. The manga makes a tad more sense (since a lot of scenes are exactly the same except you can see what everyone's thinking) but it did have a few too many nigh-on-identical touching reunions. "Don't run away, idiot! We're worried about you! Now take my hand and let's go home..." x8...

And where the hell did they pull that happy ending from?
"Oh God I'm melting!" And they all lived happily ever after!
WTF?

EDIT: For clarity's sake, I loved Elfen Lied.

Akira in the theater back in '89.

First series would have been NGE, tho, as I was/am more of a fan of comedies, so I never really got in to many "serious" titles/manga.

Akira, back when they first showed it on BBC2 donkeys years ago.

Also made me into a sub-supremacist, as it was shown in original language, this being the superior intellectual BBC2, not common as muck BBC1.

Akira, I think I was in 3rd-4th grade or something when I saw it.
Yay! Akira-brothers!
Akira popped my cherry to when I was about 11.

The way Kaori died really messed me up when I first saw it, though.

EDIT: Wait a tick, I already posted in this thread a while ago. My memory ain't what it used to be.
