Hellsing both the tv serise and the OAV's the OAV's are best imo the point in which alucard really stood out to me as a character was in the 3 oav when those swat team members were sent after him in all other cases you felt that at least alucards opponants had a chance and atleast deserved it how ever these swat team members were only trying to stop a dangours criminal. When he kill's them you see just how insane he was murdering them in sadistic and brutal ways(The one that made me go oh my god i cant believe they did that was when he threw those guards out side and inpaled them on flag poles.

RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne. Beautiful, but Mature due to the fact that there is 17 buckets of blood in every episode, and alot of sex. (One time there is an important plot thing being explained to you, but you cannot tell what it is because it's a voice over while 3 girls are having one MASSIVE ORGASM! It's very Distracting.

Calumon: Jack doesn't let me watch his mature Anime. The most mature I've seen is Digimon Tamers in Japan. Much better and my song sounds kyousei (Japanese for great, if Google is to be believed)
Looking through my denshi-jishou (electronic dictionary) I can't find "kyousei" as "great" - I've found it as "symbiosis", "administration" and "compulsory", though. Which isn't to say it can't also be used as "great" - my knowledge is far from complete.
You might try subarashii (wonderful), tanoshii (fun), omoshiroi (interesting/fun) or kawaii (cute, though that one gets overused.)

OT: Escaflowne, my first and favorite. I saw the edited Fox Kids version first, but as soon as I could I got the uncensored tapes. Great story, cool ideas, beautiful music and just enough violence to keep things interesting.

In your sense of the word? Eva I guess, it was like the second anime I've ever seen.
In the proper sense of the word? Ehhh tough choice I guess 20th century boys counts? It's a manga but I'm counting it.
Looks like we all fell into this catagory.

I think I first watched that one on a kids network which was doing a mecha sampling and covering a bunch of different anime of various maturity levels. They got to the point where they introduced the characters, but not into the material which would scar my psyche for life.

Inuyasha was the first "For Mature Audiences" anime I watched, but the first "Mature" anime I've seen would be Elfen Lied.

Gundam Wing I guess. Though in truth I'd seen enough American action flicks to think it pretty tame by then. (But Ninja Scroll, that was crazy with the boobies and violence...)

DragonBallZ or FullMetalAlchemist, I think it was DBZ...
Althou I would have to go for FMA since you require a good plot, and DBZ screwed itself after Namek Saga while FMA goes pretty good until the end.

So what's you first mature Anime?

Edit: Alright by "mature" I mean an anime that has a great plot, characters, and makes you feel like your watching something that makes you think.
Oh boy... Think I can beat pretty much everyone on this site in this department.

Devilman. When I was 6 years old. A show about demons taking over human bodies. Among other standard things (like violence, gore, decapitations) it had a scene where main hero gets attacked by his possessed naked girlfriend. And a scene where demon uses a shield made of face of people it devoured and one of those people is hero's mother (he kills them all in the end).

Yeah. My local cable in Russia used to be ran by bunch of awesome people who put on shows like Devilman, Guyver, Evangelion and Urusei Yatsura (among many-many others) at 10pm sharp.

EDIT: Just so you youngsters know what the hell this old man is talking bout... Here is a clip of the "hero" of the story fighting demons and devouring a kid...
NOW GIT OFF ME LAWN!!!!
Man I gotta go see that anime now.

That would be Akira and Ghost in the Shell. Both on the same day :)

If we are talking series then Neon Genesis Evangelion or Slayers (if that one counts).

I'd say Dragon Ball Z, Tenchi Muyo, and Outlaw Star, but those times I watched the Funimation airing, so some of the 'Mature' stuff might have been cut out.

So I'd offically say the first mature anime I saw might the Magic Knights: Rayearth, as it's the first anime were I saw any blood.

Black Lagoon was the first anime I saw that I'd consider mature. I'd always been a huge fan of Sailor Moon, Tenchi Muyo and Pokémon but it was Black Lagoon that kicked off my real anime kick.

I would have said DBZ, but I saw the edited version. Same goes for Gundam Wing, I saw the Cartoon Network edit before I saw it uncensored. So I would say my first 3 (I watched them at the same time) were Big O, Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop. Yay for the early days of Adult Swim! Those were the days...
