"War" games have been around forever but the first over-the-top violent game i played was soldier of fortune (oh the fun time re-doing the missions for just another headshot or kneeshot)

Duke Nukem or Turok for N64, can't remember which I played first. Then the first real violent game I bought for PS2 was Max Payne.

A hacked copy of Thrill Kill on the PS1... It was banned in the UK, for some utter pig swill of a reason, something about it being tooooo violent. You didn't have health, only an insanity meter that went up the more you hurt people to allow you to do dn instant kill move on one of your opponents, and it usually consisted of you and 3 other inmates from your asylum locked in a very small room beating 7 hells of crap out of each other until one is left standing and usually panting amongst pools of blood.
Oddball FTW!!!

Area 51 (Arcade light shooter, though I ran across the PS1 version many years later)

Picture this, a seven year old shooting up infected soldiers, their bodies bursting into red clouds with their ribs and skulls briefly showing before vanishing, now take into account that this was happening roughly every two seconds in most scenarios.

My parents played it with me, too, AND enjoyed themselves.

Best use of my fifty cents ever, man...

Well Grand Theft Auto 3 was the first VIOLENT, because I didn't see some games violent enough to be better than GTA 3. I played Duke Nukem 3D later than GTA 3. So yeah FAIL.

Streets of rage, loved that game so much. I may of played violent games before this one but it's the one that sticks in my mind.

First FPS I played didn't really have any blood, enemies just disintegrated... This in mind, probably GTA Vice City.
I loved how you could make the Rhino tank move faster by firing backwards than it could by normal driving, great for squishing things :p

Wolfenstein 3D I believe. I was pretty young too (about 3 or 4).
Yep. Same.
I sometimes couldn't stand watching (I let my older sis play...) when BJ was on low health, and his face was covered in blood.

Hah, I always used that as a way to let me know when I needed health, since I was no good with numbers at the time. But the thing I couldn't stand was Hans Grosse, the final boss at the end of Episode 1 (our only episode, as we had the shareware version). He always freaked me out because you'd open the door and he was right there shouting "Guten tag!" wielding two chainguns... I had to get my mom to do it for me, so don't feel bed.

first: doom

First that went a bit too far and actually made me wonder if I was enjoying it or not: Manhunt

Turok. i think its sad that my brother still remembers the big cheat to this very day
My brother remembers that cheat too, he always remembers the most random things.

OT: I'd probably say Wolfenstein 3D
