Assassins Creed 2. I was DETERMINED to climb a certain church tower in Venice. I spent an hour trying to climb it and I just couldn't figure out how to reach the top.

I was furious and felt very silly when I found out you learn a technique a little later to help you climb the thing.

EDIT: I looked it up, it's the Frari. And here's the blasted tower in real life:

The tall pointy thing on the left if you weren't sure
You cant do it until later in the story.

Several points along Test Chamber 19 in Portal drove me mad for a while. Playing through it now I feel so stupid for not seeing them.

Back when I was playing Just Cause, I was at the part where you join the rebels/guerillas to launch an attack against the doom fortress island of the President. This was at the start of the final level. Anyway; after 6 tries of various ground strategies, I bookmarked the nearest Apache and at the start of the mission i spawned my microkopter and spent 10 minutes flying to pick up my heli. Then I spent another 15 extra minutes to get back to the island....I did it in one try...those tanks never stood a chance.

This was my retribution

Mirror's Edge

There's one part where you have to carefully descend what looks like an elevator shaft, but it's about four or five times bigger and you have to hit a lever to make an elevator thing go up.

At first, I thought it was a platform to a higher area, so I spent an hour running around the lower area like an idiot trying to find where I was supposed to climb to.

I didn't find out where I was meant to go until I accidentally fell down a hole that was under the thing I just raised. Yeah, that was it.

Facepalm ensued.

Portal

The Flash Version Map Pack. All of it.

What was the point in a game where you raised your head, screamed, and yelled, "HOW DO I DO THIS!" Those things that might seam mundane, but to you, it seamed impossible. The door who's key you didn't have, the one jump you couldn't make, the one enemy you couldn't beat, the one portal who's on switch was just out of sight. What are the moments that pushed you to madness just trying to figure out what your suppose to do?
First: It's seem.

Second: The Zeus fight at the end of God of War II. I died more than 50 times. I haven't even gotten God of War III yet, because I now hate Quick Time Events with a passion.
First: I always get that wrong.

Second: Yeah, the final boss's to God of War 1 and 2 deserved to be called the final boss in their difficulty. The boss's in God of War 3... well, I thought killing gods was not going to be very easy.

The final boss battle with Crowe in Far Cry: Instincts. Seriously, the battle starts out by throwing tons of super-powered mutants with M249s at you, and then culminates with the big bad chasing at you at speeds that would make Sonic blush with the ability to one-hit kill you if he gets too close. Oh, and you have to restart the whole battle (mutants included) if he does kill you. I seriously nearly passed out due to the hyperventilation of joy that washed over me when I finally killed him.

And I also need to mention that this was on goddamn normal difficulty, thus I can't even imagine what hard is like.
