Same here, FF8, but I believe it was at the age of about 9 or 10. Of course, I had played Pokemon Blue and Red before that, but I'm considering this a console RPG question.

I recall vaguely "playing" Dragon Warrior on the NES on my father's lap as a wee lad, aware that my actions had any impact against the cartoonish slimes on the battle screen only through excessive encouragement and jubilation.

As an actual gaming experience that I could muster on my own, though? Final Fantasy IV, known to me then as Final Fantasy II. I credit that game, more than anything, with kick-starting a love of both RPGs and strange and archaic turns of phrase. ...I'm shocked I turned out as well-spoken as I am.

Pokemon Blue. :x I remember, for I managed to raise a Charizard up to level 40 before even finding the SS Anne. I also used my Masterball on a Magikarp. /shame

When I was six my dad bought me a gameboy color and pokemon blue version. I spent an hour frustratedly trying to get out of the house at the beginning because I didn't get that the door was marked by the mat and you had to walk into the wall somehow knowing there was a door there. Once I figured it out it was a lot of fun and began a long and healthy relationship of playing video games and generally being awful.

I'm pretty sure it was Diablo II. But I'm not certain. I came into the gaming scene a little late, and I didn't play D2 until I was 12. In 2005.

Pretty much this, except I had a copy of Yellow and Blue.

Either one of the ' Pokemon ' games, or ' The Curse of Monkey Island ' (Does that count...?)

Either way, both awesome games!

My first RPG was Phantasy Star IV. Its a very good rpg though not many people even know of it.

I played that game so much, but I was so impatient with it. At first I thought Zio was the final boss and he was like impossible and gave up on it, then I spent hours and hours and hours just leveling because I couldn't beat the game... and I tried to beat him again and actually did it. It was like the happiest moment of my childhood accomplishing that... and then realizing I still had a lot more game to play! That was only less than half of it... since then I've beaten the game numerous times and still load it up from time to time.

I never had snes... so if you're trying to understand my love for this game think of how much you love chrono trigger or final fantasy vi, thats this game for me. Awesome

Hybrid Heaven on the N64 if you can count that as an RPG. Confimation would be appreciated as to wheather it is an RPG but I'll go with it for now.
Other than that Paper Mario or Pokemon would be but they weren't the ones to get me into RPGs as much as I've gotten itnto them they did lay a foundation though.

Legend of Dragoon. The first and to date - going to be bold here - best RPG I've ever played. It was a 50-70 hour PS1 game, you just didnt get that on the PS1.
