Pokemon Red would be my first RPG. My main console was Sega and I didn't have a Nintendo home console until N64 and since Sega never really had any good RPGs that I knew of my First RPG was on my fatboy.
Oh man I loved that fatboy, I remember when ever I went to pick out pants with my parents I would look for ones with HUGE pockets so I could fit the damn thing in em'!
Crisis Core, oddly enough. It was the first one I played, but I was playing on a friend's borrowed PSP, so I had to give it back before I finished. The first RPG I played through all the way was FF4 on the DS.
I remember renting Dragon Warrior IV when I was exceedingly young and The Original Nintendo still had games coming out for it. However I was far to young to understand it and I didn't get very far.
The first RPG I actually beat was Final Fantasy VII, I was 12 at the time.
