I just finished re-watching the 'Band of Brothers' HBO series (If you haven't seen it, do yourself a huge favour and watch it), and after listening to the survivors talk about their ordeals, and watching grown, grizzled veterans break down in tears at the memory of what they've seen really reinforces the seemingly unpopular notion that war is a terrible thing.
Don't get me wrong: I have nothing but respect for the men and women who serve their country. And sometimes, and unfortunately, war is unavoidable (WW2, for example). But the last thing any country should be doing is LOOKING for a war to get into. That isn't a slam against Americans, either. That goes for any country, anywhere, at any time.
Sorry to sound like an after-school special. But I'd like to see less memorials being put up for the new casualties, and more word on peace talks and cease-fires.
