Semi-auto rifle. Any one really, though I'd prefer something of a medium caliber and a good capacity magazine. Any 7.62mm would do. For in close, riot gear and a mace type weapon.

Ideally I'd quite like an L85A2 because that's the gun the military use over here, meaning that ammo and spare magazines would be everywhere in a zombie appocalypse. I like to think I have the self control to stay on single-fire mode and avoid switching to rock-'n'-roll when things get heavy.

Unfortunatly, by the nessecity of the military using it, it's also a military grade assault rifle and the chances of me owning one over here in Britain are slim-to-illegal. So restricing myself to relativly low power firearms, I'd go for a nice .22 rifle, preferably bolt action with an external magazine because they're a little more reliable and very easy to unblock if the rifle does jam, as well as being easy to reload (though they do carry the slight risk of a round going off prematurely as you slide the bolt home, thus shattering all the bones in your hand. Fun!).

Since .22 rifles do tend to use .22 ammunition, I can use the same ammo in a .22 pistol as well for close quarters such as clearing out a building for the night.

Right, rifle on my back and a pistol on one hip, that leaves my other hip free for a melee weapon. A machete would be useful for cutting up wood for a fire, but to be honest a pocket knife with a saw would do the job, and I live in the city so I won't be hacking through undergrowth anytime soon... in which case I choose the crowbar! A little on the heavy side but it does have decent range, it's solid iron, has a big sharp point on the end AND can actuallly be used as, you know, a crowbar when I need to force my way into a building.

(Why yes, I have put a lot of thought into this. I'll see you on the other side of the apocalypse, when the rest of the human race has died due to their lack of forsight!)
Hmmm, in that case... see you in the Woolwich Arsenal. I'll be the one draped in 5.56 belts, holding a Minimi!

Silenced Ruger Mk II, crowbar, and a scoped AK-47. Possibly a scoped crossbow, spear, and hatchet as well. Probably raid a sports store for some armor. Most importantly, ski mask, combat helmet and goggles, for head and face protection. If I abandon realism, a SPAS-12, a M82A2, and a Mk 19 grenade launcher, with a dao or nodachi for melee. Also, chainmail over leather armor

my .270 winchester hunting rifle, a canadian shit ton of ammo, and a maul, because once the edge goes dull you can use the back end as a club.

A lot of people will say a gun of some sort, but ammo will eventually become hard to find and lets hope that isn't the only thing you plan on packing around. I'd probably take a few guns (whatever was handy that isn't too heavy, and had a lot of ammunition with it at the time), and then mostly melee. Axe, would probably be my first choice.

Then, to find somewhere to bunker down. Honestly, the first place I'd go and try to fortify: a Costco Warehouse. Seriously. No windows, and the two front doors have double metal sliding gates. Thing is like a fortress....with food, furniture, medicine, literature, clothes, and (more then likely) a back-up generator.

In my imaginary fantasy worl I have a BIG strong knife and two pistols

However in the real world my only ranged weapon would be throwing rocks at the zombies or if Im really lucky a crude gun that shoots out nails

I would have my trusty metal beating stick though

An armored car. Keeps me safe and after decay, their bones shouldn't be too hard to crack at 50mph.

Also, a long stick.

I'd use my Kel-Tec SU-16CA. Compact, light, accurate(for a carbine), common rifle ammo(.223 Rem and 5.56 NATO), compatible with AR-15/M-16 mags, Picatinny rails for accessories/scopes, and can hold a spare mag or two in the stock.

MP5, preferably the one with better head sinks if my friend in cadets is correct and a machete. Light weight and the MP5 being such a good SMG is used in so many countries ammo is less of a problem than some other guns. And some bite resistant military gear. That's if thing's work out perfectly.

In reality, I'd used my spiked bat, maybe an airsoft pistol (hey I might get a lucky shot through the eye to the brain and a knife. I'd wear my leather jacket, my insulated jeans, my leather gloves, my airsoft helmet and some all purpose hiking boots. I would not raid the gunstore at first, maybe scout it out later to see what I can scavange, but I'd most likly get a pistol from a zombifiyed cop whom I would introduce to my bat, then I'd take his gun and tazer (for assholes who aren't zombies. I just killed a zombie cop, who's inforcing the law?). Other than that, I'd avoid confrentation if I could, get an out of the way defendable spot with a chokepoint for the horde. I'd try to make it to the woods though, better roughing it than trying to scavange in a zombie hell hole. If my scout training is worth shit and I'm lucky enough to find a ranged weapon of sorts I'll be reasonably safe. Of course I wouldn't use a car, maybe a scooter or a manuverable vehicle with moderate speed, but the last thing I want is to be stuck in fucking traffic with the legion of the damned breathing down my neck.

20 gauge Winchester semi-auto shotgun, ammo is common with a turkey or full choke it has great range and spread and as a secondary the ol' rusty hatchet.

Well obviously a gun that shoots shuriken and lightning.

Realistically, get something that has plenty of ammo available and doesn't break your wrist when firing. Try to use melee weapons like a sturdy pipe segment or hammer as often as possible to keep the gun in good condition. Even melee will not be a really smart option as hitting something hard (like a human skull) repeatedly will hurt your wrists a lot. I'd just make sure not to attract too much attention, attempt to get some sort of food production going on the roof of the garage and barricade some basement windows and the doors.

A Katana or any other sword not sold from a real swordsmith is not wise because the ones sold for anything less than 3000$ will either bend or shatter after a few swings.
Neither would be a bow if you want to shoot any more than ten individuals accurately in a row. Unless you've trained to be a genuine medieval soldier archer capable of firing salvos. It's smarter than shooting with a loud, ammo-hungry assault rifle though.

Most likely I'll just die because I have no training with guns and the only gun store around sells bolt-action hunting rifles and maybe collectors items.
Then again, the military is probably not going to just stand by and get eaten, we didn't invent Metal Storm to be taken over by a few unarmed braindead shamblers. It'll probably be a bit costly and some cities maybe even be lost, but it's not that hard to identify the source of the zombie virus and just shoot on sight. Unless it goes airborne or manages to infect micro-organisms like some sort of deranged, undead algae apocalypse.

Take as few risks as possible, and never gather too large of a group of humans. The more people you have with you, the more mouths to feed and the greater chance of one of them doing something stupid to get you killed. A few people would be good though as it can increase your chances of having someone to save your ass from time to time.
Let take this in an other direction. Why is it that soo many ppl are thinking about ZA? Its not about shooting zombies it about who you are, who you could be. Its about building society by your own rules. Mmmm all the girls I could save ohh how gratefull they would be. Its about walking on the street and looking at some people that are on an other level than you and thinking that in some place in some other dimension it would be otherwise.

Soo do you have someone that you would got to save no matter what during the apocalypse? Maybe someone you didnt previously know? Mayby someone you hadnt have a chance with before?

My imagenary plan if EVERYTHING mysticaly goes how I would like is to save all the girls I ever wanted something with. Go to an island with its own sourse of electricity than form a harem and play xbox360 for the rest of my life.
Admirable plan there sir. I mainly based my theories on survival. I am not saying that you can't bend the rules to have a little fun. Those are just my rules to stay alive. Much like life is now, when something comes my way that is worth the risk involved I happily jump forth like a lemming to its doom.

Instead of an island in your scenario I might opt for something like Alaska, plenty of energy farms there, and a zombie would starve trying to get from one place to another there (if they didn't freeze first). Plentiful food as well, if you like fish.

Thank you, RamirezDoEverything.

The AK series has the most in the way of ammo and spare parts, worldwide (The Soviets made an awful lot of them). And they don't stop working, and are far better per shell at taking down a bum's rush than the NATO / Colt Commando equivalents. (Zombies don't tend to hide in cover and return fire.)

For a real-world discussion on the subject, consider checking out the Zombie Squad [http://www.zombiehunters.org/] a real-world Zombie outbreak task force. No kidding!

Sadly, part of the Zombie paradigm is that there are more zombies than bullets. And everyone gets tired and hungry sooner or later.

I suspect in our universe, we'd sooner encounter infected zombies, or for a strange twist, headcrab-style alien-possessed zombies than we would undead zombies.[footnote]Undead ones are raised either by magic or weird zombie-raising radiation, both of which our world seems to be rather scant.[/footnote] And those are on enough of a time limit that a proper fortification could keep them out.
