if you're like me, you can't really afford $60 for a new game. With game companies saying how aweful it is that people are buying used I started wondering what price would have the largest sales. I myself would buy new games if they were closer to $40.

$40 is a great price range. Hell, I'd be happy if they went back to the $50 that PS2 games used to cost me, lol. Every little bit helps.

30-40? for AAA games, 20? max on some bit more random products. But really it depends on the game.

Actually, I thought of a pricing scheme a while back that I don't think would ever work, but might be worth mentioning...

$30 for Single Player, $30 for MultiPlayer, or $50 for the whole package. So, games don't feel like they HAVE to have a SP or MP element if it isn't needed. And, we don't have to pay for "tacked on" experiences...BF3 Single-Player, I'm talking to you...

40 is a good starting place for games, one reason I'm not gonna bother with skyrim and am going for saints row the third is cause skyrim is 60 bucks but saints row is only 50, or 40 if I get it off amazon.

For today's content in games I'd say its closer to $20 dollars. Because you KNOW there will be another $20-$40 of DLC on its way shortly after to bring the game to half finished status. I'll pay non sale prices on old games that I know are worth it. But these days, I'm thankful all I need is patience for the next steam sale on whatever I feel is probably questionable. Which seems to be pretty much everything now.

But, as far as cost to hours played ratio, I will play Skyrim for FARRRR more time. I sank around 175 hours into my main in Oblivion, and another 150 into ONE OF MY ALTS, lol. Yeah, I'll be playing Skyrim for a while.

I'll pay $80 AU for something brand new if I'm 99% certain I'll enjoy it a lot.

Everything else waits for used copies or Steam sales, $40 or less. Developers and publishers that whine about used sales can fuck right off so long as they're charging $110 AU for a brand new game. That shit will not fly.

I played allot of oblivion but I also played allot of saints row2, its just that I haven't really enjoyed bethesdas latest games, fallout 3 and new vegas (yeah I know they didn't make it) Just something about them didn't do it for me, I've got the collectors of both up on my shelf but ehh, I just cant think of a reason to play them so I'm worried I might encounter the same thing with skyrim, plus bethesda is kinda acting like a giant ass right now with its weird lawsuits so I don't mind waiting for skyrim to be on steam sale.

$40-45 for a BRAND NEW first day release. I"ll pay $60-70 for a special edition with physical and downloadable perks. And any DLC should be less than $10, way less really but they need to make money I guess.

Obviously that don't happen so I have paid paid full price for a brand new game but only a few times, and now I'll always buy used or wait a while until it drops.$60 for a new game no matter how long it is or how involved it is, is crazy to me.

$40 USD max for a recent release, though I still likely won't get it. I'm more inclined to wait a year for the new package to hit shelves, complete with all DLC for that $40 tag.

$20 and under I'm much more likely to get.

I spent $110 on Assassin's Creed 3 for PS3. How dare you complain about $60.
That's what I was thinking.

I have no problem spending $60 on games. It's cheaper than pretty much ANYWHERE else. I imagine it's a problem if you don't have a job or something, but hell. Everything is a problem if you don't have a job.

considering that the most I've paid for a new game is AR$270, being The Orange Box
and the cheapest being $95 for Assassins Creed 2, both for PC

yeah, there you go =P

would like it if games were cheaper down here, but then again, not many physical PC games come out here, especially since we pretty much only have Games For Windows Live exclusivity unless you import

$40-$50.

I'm almost positive that Skyrim, MW3, and BF3 would ALL get MUCH better first day sales if they were that cheap.

The $60 doesn't really bug me that much, most the games I buy have at least 20 hours of content, which is $3 an hour for just one play through, it's already one of the cheapest forms of entertainment.

I'm generally willing to pay the standard price for a new release, more for CE's obviously.

But I sure as hell won't pay the same price for a game 6 to 12 months down the line.
PS3 releases does that a lot, and they have missed out on many purchases from me because of it.

I will only buy a game for $60 or more if I'm a rabid fanboy (So Portal 2 and Mass Effect 3). Otherwise I'll either buy it used for $20 or less (Orange Box, Mass Effect 1 & 2), or borrow from a friend (Borderlands, Prototype).

Just a couple points I feel that I need to make.

1) The fallout games were not high fantasy. It might be possible that you did not enjoy them the same way because of the setting and theme, rather than the actual content. I would also add that gunplay is a lot different than the swordplay in the ES series.

2) Bethesda's lawsuits are not unwarranted. Unnecessary, yes; but, still, far from frivolous. Bethesda's legal team saw that, and needed to act in order to protect their IP. Copyright laws are flawed, and another animal entirely. But, my point here is that it's not a malicious lawsuit, nor does it reflect the feelings of the team who actually created Skyrim. It's business people doing business things, and that's what it boils down to.

OT: They'll both be fantastic games! lol
