David Hayter couldn't play Snake in a live action film, every live action role he's had has been terrible. And besides, Metal Gear is best as a game, why make it a movie?
It's without a doubt my favourite game as it immerses you into it while you're playing and feels more like a movie at times.

Anyway it's already being done, so we'll see how bad or good it is next year (maybe).

I just don't see how a Metal Gear Solid movie could do anything but suck without David Hayter voicing.

Right off the bat you are going to get the worse kind of publicity ever with the 'its probably going to suck donkey balls, Hayter isn't going to voice snake'.

Is there even anyone in the film industry that has a voice that is close to what Hayter's sounds like?

Currently IMDB lists it as being "In Production" and being directed by Kurt Wimmer, of "Ultra Violet" and "Equilibrium" fame. There are no writing or casting credits listed yet, though Kojima personally made the film deal, so we can at least be hopeful.

*shudder* I am afriad, who's directing?
According to IMDB, Kurt Wimmer who directed Equilibrium and UltraViolet. I've not seen UltraViolet but Equilibrium was a good film.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808372/

Could be a load of rubbish but still.

I dunno who they could get to play Snake, though Hayter doesn't look like Snake, so that would be a no-go.

Casting Snake would be an iffy call, one that I wouldn't want to make, and we don't currently know their budget. My bet would be on either a talented New Comer or an Unknown... Unless someone big name like Christian Bale or Hugh Jackman was after the role. It also depends on whether or not they're going with Older or Younger snake, I always thought of Solid Snake as being perpetually near 40ish, so I think an older actor would be a better choice.

My problem with Hayter being cast as snake is that he doesn't look 'hard' enough, too baby faced, that and he hasn't 'acted' in ages and while he is a GREAT voice actor I don't know if he could pull it off. Kojima wants him cast as Snake though, so it might happen anyway.

One actor who might have the right look (IMO) is Thomas Jane but I'm unsure if he has the actual acting chops.

I've put up a new thread so we can stop derailing this one with MGS Movie and Casting discussion.

EDIT:

Bioshock will be the best Game/Movie adaptation...period.

It is being directed by Gore Verbinski, who is quite talented despite some bad scripts, but the script is being written by John Logan. Who is responsible for the upcoming Lincoln Biopic from Spielberg, The Aviator, The Last Samurai, Gladiator and Sweeny Todd.

So barring a fuck up of incalculable proportions... this will probably be the best game-movie adaptation anyone could hope for.

Echoing what a couple of people have said, a Halo movie could be really good, as long as they didn't make Master Chief the main character. Nameless and faceless works for the protagonist of a video game, but not a movie. But if they focused on a unit of Marines/ODST's that landed on either of the Halos, or the Ark (or all three), then you could actually spend a good amount of time on character development, instead of having nonstop action like in the game.

You could have a character eventually transform into the master chief to finally defeat the flood and stop Guilty Spark...

Not exactly game to movie, but I've long entertained the idea of a GTA Musical.

"And now its me and my AK,
But I know I'll be O.k.
You all better get out of my way,
I've got myself an A.K."

xDDD dude, that would be awesome. if i ever become some big broadway person i would definatly turn that into a musical.

Mass Effect-Would be like Firefly/Serenity
Indigo Prophecy-the game is an interactive movie already.
Lost Oddysey-could be a cool science fantasy
Dark Brotherhood questline in Oblivion would also be awesome.

One of the Devil May Cry games. Get the right director and producer, and more importantly, the choreographer who worked on the games, and it would be great, if a bit of a brainless action gorefest.
I'm all for that. They should also cast the voice actors for the movie because not only do they have the voice and the moves they can act as well. Especially Johnny young Bosch and Daniel Southworth since they were power rangers :p

I don't think any rpg should be made into a movie because unless it's done in a lotr style way there's no way a 2-3 hr movie is going to sum up a rpg game story.

My personal opinion would be...none...because it could ruin the name of the game they were made. yea if u liken the game, you would still play it, but still...i think its a bad idea

Half-Life with Hugh Laurie as Gordon Freeman.
Hugh Laurie is too old. Can you imagine him teaming up with Alyx?

Homeworld would be an interesting movie, were more people interested in flying things instead of cheesy sex and big guns that can't hit the protagonist.

Erm...God of War, anyone? Nothing can, or will be, as epic. Well that depends on who directs it. If movie phails.......we can always just watch the cutscenes of the game :)

Prince of Persia'd be nice too, also depending on how its done and who directs.

you guys are silly. We all know the most epic movie would be a Duke Nukem Forever movie! Too bad it doesn't come out until the end of time.
Starring Vin Diesel, that's a serious statement too. He's a hardcore nerd, talked on Conan how his first D&D character was a paladin I believe and he's the right build for him. He could definitely pull it off.

Going to suck MAJOR dick. Bioshock is too "deep" of a game for average movie-goers, look at movies like Children of Men or Doctor Strangelove, the films of Bergman, Kubrick, Kurosawa and the like, these films that are huge critical successes but no audience is going to give a shit about the moral implications of Rapture, they'll just go to see huge steam-driven goliaths pound the hell out of each other. Need I remind you that the top grossing movie right now is Sex & the City?

Legacy of Kain (minus Defiance and Blood Omen 2) have my favorite storyline of any game. Period.

As for Bioshock, my problem was that when I got it, I just marathoned the shit out of it so by the time I got to the end, I was too burned out on the game to really care. Plus you being good or evil didn't really impact the ending, with you escaping from Andrew Ryan and all that, sure the end cinematic was different and you got more Adam but most of the time, you'd have so much goddamn Adam unless you bought Machine Hack 16, it was pointless to "abosorb" the girls.
