The title says it all. What would have to happen to make you give up on video games as a form of entertainment and quit them forever?

I pray this will never happen, but if motion controls became so popular on consoles that all PC developers shifted their focus entirely to consoles and motion controls, that would be the end of gaming for me. So long as there are a couple of holdouts though (Valve and Bioware especially), I won't lose hope.
Yup... you've pretty much summed up my reason for quitting.
If they phase out traditional hand held controllers, I'll have to read alot more.

All future releases being entirely focused on Multiplayer, with no story or single player involved.

That's where my love affair began, with games with great stories. And it's always what I keep coming back to, Multiplayer can get boring, but great stories always entertain and enthrall me

If overzealous Catholics came into control of the ESRB system and banned all games that they deemed "dangerous" to the peoples' faith in God.

... I get way too riled up about some of the stupidity found in Catholisism. Just know that this is aimed at the bible-thumpers, not all Catholics.
The word you're looking for is fundamentalists. Man, fuck those guys. In every religion.

If games ever stopped being made for PC's I'd quit buying new games and play my old favourites over and over.

Too many Remakes.

It is just lazy. Upgrading the graphics and adding bits that the original didnt need to be awesome. There are some good ones out there but I would rather see some more game ideas. The main reason for me owning only a Wii (appart from my PC) is the originial games that come out for it.

Definitely if it was all multiplayer-focused games. Multiplayer is fine and all, and i play it every now and then myself, but to be honest i play games to get away from people, to just relax and play a game. This is fine when a game has bots or something, but fewer and fewer games do that, nowadays (for what reason i dont know), but i prefer being anti-social playing games personally.

only one thing can make me lose faith in gaming if twilight game becomes game of year or if Starcraft 2 still keeps me in bronze legue forever

mass conversion to make any/all games requiring the internet to perform...
Second. Moving house, and one of my flatmates is a heavy PC gamer, and a fair few of his current favourite games need a permanent internet connection. And since we're moving, we've had the net cut off and won't have it back until a week after in the new house. Funny as hell to see him load the game, only for it to tell him he needs internets.

If an FPS that caters entirely towards noobs, encourages bad habits like camping, spamming, etc., replaces tactics with charging headfirst at the enemy, and takes all the skill out of playing becomes one of the most popular video games ever made, that would probably make me lose my faith in gaming. Good thing that'll never happen, right?

OH WAIT:
You can hardly play that game with no skill required. Sure, it caters towards casual players, but in a game where no bullshit tactics are used(i.e. Commando, Danger Close, Ump), it can be a tough time. Believe it or not, a good team can counter balance the bullshit.

OT: Mine would be if the Kinect thing started to catch on, and everyone tried implementing it into their games. My thoughts on it, putting in awkward motion and and sporatic movements take all thought process out of the game. Basically, it is not fun.

If Microsoft fucked up Windows 7 and made it as poorly-designed and inefficient as Vista, I was gonna take up model railroading.

It's not perfect (progress in technology never is), but I've seen framerate improvements in most of my games, mostly because I can use 4GB of RAM, something XP couldn't do.

You'll notice I'm already out on console gaming. Hardware's either underpowered, overpriced, or unreliable and there is more concept-milking/unoriginality in console gaming than in PC gaming, where indie and open-source developers and modding communities keep the innovation flowing.

Well, I can't say I'll abandon gaming because of it but this has been pissing me off. The lack of local multiplayer in gaming recently. I don't always want to play with some anonymous pricks I don't give a toss about. I just want to play with my friends in person dammit. Seriously, Bad Company has a strong emphasis on multiplayer but no local multiplayer, Bioshock 2 could have it (It would have redeemed the whole game for me.) Aliens vs. Predator had none. Uncharted 2, Team Fortress 2, so many more I can't think of. When did playing with real people become such a taboo thing? Christ.
My friends and I are gaming less and less for precisely this reason. We play older games, or even substandard newer ones, simply because we want to actually hang out while we play.

The omission of local multiplayer is a straight-up money grab; they want each of us to have his own disc, console, television, internet connection + subscription... it really is enough to put us off the modern rendition of this hobby.

1. If absolutely everything required motion controls.
2. If absolutely everything was multiplayer only.
3. If Nintendo went out of business.

If they start having advertisements in game.

I have to deal with it in movies and tv.

I pay 60 bucks a game because i don't have to deal with advertisements.

The Day i have Rico telling me how awesome knocking back a pepsi would be right now is the day i sell my PS3.
