I cant believe no-one has mentioned these (I do not, in any way agree with them on the last one:
1. No flying cars
2. Loss of community involvement and
3. (For those of us who rose from the ashes of white trash) Blacks in schools and restaurants.

What would get my ancestors to shake their heads?

Well, the ancestors on my father's side were a rather prickly bunch - very serious, sober, intellectual types who were mostly naturalists (basically ecologists - naturalist is just an old term for ecologist). They were also fairly progressive and liberal (for the most part). There's only one thing that would really get them to shake their heads - the fact that some people believe they owe nothing to society.

We stand on the shoulders of giants people. Even the most "self-made man/woman" couldn't have done it without the work of millions of other people who lived alongside them. All the fancy technology that you use today was invented by someone else. To any person who claims to be "totally self made", I invite them to live out in the middle of a forest, with no technology that they did not themselves invent. Let's see how far they get.

My parents, grand-parents, aunts and uncles and ancestors always taught this valuable lesson: You owe a great deal to society, even if you do not know it. Those who claim loudly that they "hate" society are often those who have never had to live away from society.

The rather selfish "I-owe-nobody-nothin'" attitude that is prevalent amongst the youth of today would make our ancestors scream. Because we are only here today due to what they did. We are a communal creature, we find strength in numbers and co-operation and in the social contract. A man or a woman, on their lonesome, can barely achieve anything. It takes a society to achieve something.

They'd be horrified. A 24 year old woman, unmarried with no children? And with no kyrios (guardian/protector - in Ancient Greece, women needed to be 'protected' by a man(either their husband, or their closest male relative) who would pretty much run their life for them.)?!!!

Really, the ancestors are just humans a couple of years behind us in history. Unless a horde of undead vikings is currently marching towards my doorstep, I don't really care what they think.
OT:
"Why is he waving is middlefinger like that?"

Be pleasantly surprised at how normal people are, in spite of living in a world where farmers form a minority of the population, inter-continental travel is widely available, and... like, EVERYTHING. And probably think of us as all being a bit useless and over-educated. But still fairly similar to Past People.

I think they'd be proud.
because when ever we find the smallest we could possibly find our first thought was "how do i break this then" and generally its to make a weapon of some kind. they'd be happy with what we did with our world.

IMO this is a good thing, but we are much less badass as a result.
We live in a world where a single brand can be recognized by more people than Caesar, Alexander the Great, Gengis Khan or Hannibal put together ever were. We're so badass its scary.

It depends what ancestors we're talking about. My grandparent and his father probably wouldn't be very proud but I can imagine his grandparents might think we did a good job.. Assuming they can understand it all ;)
