I chose a theme for naming my ships. I used nautical terms for a while, but I later remembered the perfect name for a science ship - The U.S.S. Antikythera.

It's the PERFECT name for a science ship by its very nature!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism
I like that one.

Maybe the USS Archimedes for another science vessel?

For a warship:

USS Nausicaa, greek for "burner of ships"

And USS Ulysses for an exploration vessel.

Hmm, starship names.

My Escort starship in Star Trek Online is called the Nautilus, and yeah it's probably an obvious reference to Leagues, but I don't care, I loved that book, and if I ever had my own starship, that'd be what it'd be called.

Other STO Ship names so far-

The USS J.A.S.S for Just Another Star Ship
The USS Yellow Submarine
The USS Quib Quib
The USS Bad Idea

Also when I used to play Star Wars Galaxies I had a Jedi Interceptor I called the Ebon Blade that was fun

USS Prometheus

For those of you who don't know Prometheus is from Greek mythology. He gave fire to the mortals. He was later punished by Zeus for it.
I'm pretty sure that Stargate took that name before you got it.

OT:The USS NSFW or the USS World Eater
I don't watch Stargate. Crap, now I need a new name.

The USS "Insert name so mind blowingly original that your head would explode if you just heard one syllable of it"

I'd call mine:
Sobek

Named after the most badass Egyption god, the one with a crocodile's head.

I usually use "Leviathan" as a ship name but in the only Star Trek based story I ever wrote my ship was named "The Hand of Fate".

I know I've already posted a name but I just remembered an even better one. The S.S. More Powerful Than Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, and the Incredible Hulk Put Together.

Ten points goes to the person who names what this is from first!
Peter's fishing boat from Family Guy [http://familyguy.wikia.com/wiki/S.S._More_Powerful_Than_Superman,_Batman,_Spider-Man,_and_the_Incredible_Hulk_Put_Together].

As for my ship, I'd name it the Kronecker Delta. It's a nice reference to mathematics, it's got a catchy sound, and it can even be spun into a homily about the importance of unity of purpose (or mindless conformity, but why ruin a good homily by overthinking it?).

Barring that, I'd name it the Feynman, because Feynman was the MAN and any functional interstellar starship will owe some of its power to the quantum physics that he helped discover.

To actually see such a name on the side of a starship, even a simple CGI one, is a thing of great beauty.

My preferred ship name would be the USS The Game. My enemies would lose long before they ever fired a shot.

It's spelled ''Qwib-Qwib'' :p

Anyway: The ESF Silent Pandemic
Dammit! Ah well, you got the reference. I can't remember if I spelled it correctly in the game or not, but that was my starter ship in STO. I just loved the idea of all of these NPS's talking about my ship like it was the hero of the galaxy, and it's the Qwib Qwib :)

Nah, I was in the Beta... would have gotten further if it wasn't for the bugs and glitches... doubt I'll buy the full game, unless they do decide to make it for the 360 as well. Shame, because it is a good game, but I don't want to pay so much to play one game when I could spend more time on a 360 game for less cost.

Something along the lines of The Culture naming conventions.

Perhaps the Inconveniently Hostile, though I must admit there already exists the perfect name for a starship in all of sci-fi history: the I Said I Carry a Big Stick (the name is always spoken softly, this is represented by the smallish way it is written)
