Nah Id let it do it's thing. It's how it's supposed to work so I can't really say Id blame the spider.

I'm in a garden with no animals, nothing to eat (except maybe fruit and veg), no shelter of any sort, and no people. Why the hell would I care about the spider or the butterfly? I'd be more worried about getting home!
I absolutely despise Spiders (hell I live in a country that's full of the deadliest spiders in the world, so it's not exactly illogical) I wouldn't just free the butterfly, I'd destroy the spider myself.
Can I save the butterfly from the other side of the garden from the web? Because if not, I'm just gonna blast a semi auto shotgun in the general direction of the spider. With my eyes closed. And a baseball bat on backup. And a prepared escape route and plan to quarantine the garden should the spider survive.
I probably wouldn't have noticed in the first place, let alone care. I just wouldn't do anything, it's only a butterfly and only a spider, neither is better than the other.
This, also the spider likely has a longer life, is more intelligent, et cetera. If not venomous, PET! If venomous and I really start to hate being stuck their, starving myself... well...Trippy Turtle said:

Leave it. Why would I think I had the right to take away the spider's dinner, even if it would only feed it for a while, even though I have the ability to do so? It would be like if I made a delicious sandwich and then it was stolen by vegans before I had a chance to eat it.
