This is a classic example of the kind of censorship that society really needs to outgrow. The idea that the best way to solve a problem and get the general public to deal with is to make sure it is completely omitted from any kind of media which might actually cause the intended viewer to think about their views and perhaps even sympathise with terrorists.
I don't know what you all believe regarding 9/11, whether it was a conspiracy or it was terrorism, but assuming it was terrorism (which the media and most people certainly do) then the fact remains that the taliban destroyed the world trade center and killed hundreds of people for the sake of essentially making a point.
Allowing someone to play as the taliban in-game will not suddenly make them identify with them and go: "Gee, maybe they did have a point," because murder, especially mass-murder is never justifiable. It is also not in someway taboo for the game to set the taliban up as 'the bad guys' and demonize them, because the rest of the media certainly does.
And in the end, terrorism is about causing terror and getting the target of the terror to adjust their lives in fear of you. Isn't the fact that we're considering censoring the taliban in a game testament to the fact that America is scared of terrorism?
Just saying, we probably allow the Nazis, Russians and faceless terrorists, because they are less likely to actually go over to America and commit human atrocities.
I completely agree that the taliban should be left in for the sole purpose of open-mindedness and societal advancement. But on the other hand...would you allow someone to do something that may inadvertently get someone killed?
