The magnetic poles of earth swap (apparently it happens} the Borealis effect envelopes the earth for the time that the magnetic field of the planet is at it's weakest. people stare up at the sky in awe this once in a life time opportunity, ignorant of the fact that they are probably being bathed in solar radiation. Mass sunburns occur. the radiation causes genetic mutations that cause peoples' brains to work at nearly full capacity. Most people develop some kind of mind based ability (telepathy, telekinesis, pyrokinesis... ehm, mind based flight?) Unfortunately, most people wouldn't be able to adapt to such immense intelligence and go insane, resorting to jumping off buildings or committing suicide in admittedly creative ways or simply dying. now that I think about it, some people might be doing that anyway because it's 2012. the surviving populace rebuilds society, much like todays, only they learned from us and stopped using fossil fuels, didn't let greedy people into government, or anything along those lines. The societies split into groups of haves'-and-have-nots' (I.E. HAS telepathy and DOES NOT have mind powered flight and so on)and at this point it wouldn't be 2012 anymore... rumors begin to circulate about ancient humans predicting the world ending or the zombie apocalypse coming in 2046 and this crap starts again and History repeats itself.
If anything did happen, Id want a massive 2012 movie scenario... but itll only happen in like china or some middle east country. Enjoy the view from a nice safe distance, without loosing too much
