I would say either Pokemon Black and White (I think best Pokemon game ince G/S/C), L.A. Noire (not out yet, but looks amazing), or Batman Arkham City (IT LOOKS SO INCREDIBLE.)

Black/White

The only game that was remotely close to topping it was Dragon Age, and it didn't.
Nothing else this year looks nearly as good (Including Mass Effect/Portal/Skyrim/insert popular series here)

I don't know because I haven't played a game yet that deserves the title.

I am looking forward to quite a few though. I'll get back to you in October or November and let you know what I think. :)

Infamous 2 just took the "heavy contenders" list's lead because of user generated content.

Other heavy contenders right now are Uncharted 3 (it is looking AMAZING!) and Mass Effect 3.

As far as released games (in case the other 3 somehow disappoint): It's a toss up between Dead Space 2 and Dragon Age 2.

Well, definitely Bulletstorm and Dragon Age 2 won't be even close to be GOTY.

(I still haven't played Dragon Age 2, mind you, but from what I've heard, it won't be GOTY for many people)

My bet would be Skyrim, Brink, Deus Ex and/or Guild Wars 2.
To this I'd say play it and see for yourself. I'm enjoying it something fierce so far. DA2 is not bad in any way, shape or form.

I think people just expected too much from the DA franchise and Bioware. Had DA2 been made by any other developer under any other name and the same people bashing it would be praising it.

A very tough question.

I'm hoping Portal 2, just because Portal was so damn fun but so, so short. With the work going into making it a full-length game, and the innovative nature of the first game (not forgetting the instant atmosphere and generally fun voice-acting.)

Hopefully that will be so, though it's far from definite. If not Portal 2 then, I don't know, Skyrim looks like it could be awesome, Batman: Arkham City could be sweet, Dragonage 2 looks fun at moment, though I'm not gonna rush to get it.

It's a tough call, but pending the actual experience of playing the games, I'm gonna guess with Portal 2.

Theoretically, Skyrim (unless Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One is promised this year?). Hard to say, especially since I haven't played any but Pokemon White so far. It's not that.

Portal 2; they've already got J.K. Simmons, Jonathan Coulton, The National and Stephen Merchant on board, and they're keeping the same twisted sense of humor, and there's co-op...

Then again, Valve may have painted themselves into a corner somewhat; given how well the first game was recieved, they might get a flood of hatred if it's just 'really good' and not 'a divine gem bestowed upon mankind by the hand of Christ himself'. I'm still looking forward to it, though. I pre-ordered, and it's just sitting in my Steam library taunting me...

Oh, and the Captcha is expecting me to type in Hebrew characters. What the hell is that about?

SKYRIM.

I want it to be my GOTY. And next year. And probably the year after that. From what I've seen/read so far, things are looking up.

Since Kingdom Hearts 3 isn't even published with any images etc, (why SQENIX, why?) My personal choice next is Duke Nukem Forever.

I think it's dumb to name a "game of the year" completely based on speculation of what the various games coming out are going to be like. None of us have played any of the unreleased games and therefore none of us can comment on how good or bad they are.

For all we know Skyrim might be complete and utter crap and Duke Nukem Forever is going to be an industry changing success. None of us can make this call this early in the year, so this thread is pointless.

Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3 and Guild Wars 2.

Fuck decision, I'm taking all of them! They are equally as awesome (or will be, in terms of ME3 and GW2).

Yeah, the year isn't over yet. I can't accurately guess if any upcoming games are going to be good.

Deus Ex: Hobo Repairman has a good shot at it, but I'm not sure how much the incredibly overt [small]SYMBOLISM!!!![/small] from the intro trailer will be present in the game. If there's a lot of it then it can go to hell.

Catherine has a good chance too, but it remains to be seen how well the gameplay works.

Portal 2 risks overstaying its welcome, and it's a full-price release. The first one was great, but it's hard to say if this will be just as good.

Hoping it will be Deus Ex: Human revolution.
It sure as hell won't be Mass effect 3 *shudder*

Why do you sign your posts?
Catherine looks like it will get old pretty fast. it looks fast paced, but repetitive. in any case, I recently had my hotmail and steam hijacked (got my Steam one back) so i sign my posts, so friends know I am who I say I am.
If my post isn't signed, it isn't me, simple as that.

It still might not be you.

OT:
Deus Ex: Human Revolution has a chance based on what I've seen, but so do Arkham City (October release confirmed, I think), Gears 3, Mass Effect 3 (no way this is coming out this year, though), LA Noire, and probably some "come from behind" game that I'll love. It's happened before (Halo: Reach and Red Dead Redemption unseated Mass Effect 2 for my GOTY).

As for what I've already played though, Dead Space 2, hands-down. Weird as this may sound, I just bought Forza 3 and even though it came out last year I'm counting it as a "this year" release for me. It's absolutely amazing.

It is awfully early in the year to speculate such things, but I suppose the obvious contenders would be Portal 2, Dragon Age 2 or Mass Effect 3 with Brink as a potential dark horse candidate.
