I'm currently reading The New York Trilogy by Paul Auster - just finished City of Glass. Insanely slick piece of metafiction. Three detective stories, all very noir-esque. Trying to figure out all the ways in which the author is subverting the author-reader-protagonist relationships could cause chronic insomnia and mild hair loss.

You know you're in for a good read when, at the end of the first chapter, a stranger phones the protagonist asking for a "Detective Paul Auster". o_O;

Also slowly (mostly because I'm lazy) but surely working my way through Terry Pratchett's Reaper Man.

The Necronomicon, by H.P. Lovecraft.

It's a good read, but so far the stories seem kind of samey. I'm on The Nameless City.
I have a feeling I'm getting it from my girlfriend for Christmas. :)

"Cannary Row", by Steinbeck. I just finished it today, and I have to say, I'm a little dissapointed. There isn't a particularly strong plot taking the reader through the novel. In "Grapes of Wrath" we had a road trip to California, in "Of Mice and Men", we had the increasing difficulty of protecting Lenny. In Cannery Row though, there is just a few incompetant bums trying to organise a party, and a few other little vignettes. I don't think it works quite as well, despite the intriguing cast of characters.

I just finished reading Brave New World. It was a nice book and there will be a movie somewhere in 2011! Cant wait..
Brave New World > 1984. It doesn't help that 1984 gets referenced to death, and that whenever a political partisan wants to press a point, they'll start throwing terms like "Orwellian" and "thought crimes" around like there's no tomorrow.

Under the Dome by Stephen King. Great book, but if the bad guys don't get what's coming to them I will never buy a book by him again. Seriously, the main bad guy reminds me of Simon Cowell.

I'd like to read some H.P Lovecraft. And every single book ever written by R.A. Salvatore.

For now, I have to content myself with reading my global history textbook at breakfast.

(I used to read my sister's because it was there, but it wasn't quite advanced enough, so I dragged mine downstairs.)

Really? what do you recommend by him?

As for McCarthy I would say to check out:
Suttree (Keep in mind, this book is HARD to wrap your mind around)
All the Pretty Horses
The Road
No Country for Old Men (If you haven't seen the movie)
Most all of his Discworld series (especially Night Watch, Small Gods and Thief of Time). That said my comment was kind of tongue in cheek because I really don't have an author thats such a favourite I could say they were the greatest ever. Have to look into McCarthy though.
Cool man, I will be sure to check one of those out
Bear in mind they're totally comedy novels. Very clever and well written ones, but basically comedy nonetheless.
