Too many Mario Kart knockoffs starting coming out and the general quality of futuristic and nonreal racing games (games that use fantasy vehicles).

Personally I love games like NFS, Forza, and GT. Grid was tight as well.

For me, having real vehicles is important for a racing game, however there were some great fantasy racers as well (Wipeout is always awesome). There is just too much trash in that genre (Mario Kart and F-Zero for example) that everything that came out tried to copy.

The best futuristic racer I have played was San Francisco Rush 2049 for the N64. It's a shame that I probably won't see another game like it.
This is very true in hindsight.

A properly done Car Wars (Steve Jackson games) would be nice. They tried that bastard child called Auto Assault and it failed so hard. Car Wars was a great beer and Pretzel type RPG.

I really liked the Xtreme G series and the Podracer game back in the day. Miss them much. I enjoy sim racing like Dirt and Racedriver: GRID, and I'm looking forward to Gran Turismo 5. But, I'd like to see an XG4.
Anyone else know the song from XG3 called "Hey DJ!"? I still have it on my iPod it's so good.
Star Wars Pod Racer was one of the few racing games I actually completed, but it doesn't hold a candle to XG3. I still play that one every few months to bask in the awesome feeling of insane speed and breaking the sound barrier.
Oh, and "Hey DJ" (by C90, I believe), the track for Atradaitoshi (which is also my favorite map), is the best in the entire game. Rocks my socks off every time.

The Dreamcast version was even better. Easily one of the best racing games I have ever played, as well as one of the best futuristic racers as well.

Ahh yes, Extreme-G. I actually found XG3 to be fairly disappointing in comparison to previous titles (especially the first one, god that was an excellent game), but admittedly it remains a game I regret selling to this day.
And I'm personally partial to "Needlejuice", aka the music that played while you raced on the Oceania track.

Yeah, i'm not saying that they should stop making the realistic drivers/sims, some of them are pretty entertaining. NFS: Shift was actually the game that brought me to this topic. it was the first game that i've played in a while that really made me feel the speed of the game.

Dunno though, as i don't own a ps3 or a psp, the only unrealistic driver available to me nowadays is the mario kart series. i still enjoy the wii and ds versions greatly, but i'd definitely prefer a more mature setting. it's why i still play XG3 every now and then.

I miss Aero Guage... and don't feel bad if you've never heard of it, it was a fairly unknown game for the N64 that recieved some pretty awful scors. It has so far been the only racing game I've ever actually liked. They did flight so very well, that had a damage system that made sense, interesting courses... Although it didn't have the weapons of games like Extreme G, I liked that it was pure race, and I still like the flying at high speeds that I haven't seen matched yet.

Ok, There needs to be another Star Wars Podracing game now. Officially. Out for both Xbox & PS3 (Needs to be on both to shut up the fanboys).
As soon as I read that, the sound of a Podracer's engine as it dips into a canyon popped into my head. Oh, what a beautiful sound that is.
