Used to be huge on local rock and roll bands, being in one myself. The rare occasion we got to play with a band I could tolerate, I'd pay real attention to them. For any punk rockers out there I highly recommend Teenage Rehab [http://www.myspace.com/teenagerehab] and The All American Werewolves [http://www.myspace.com/allamericanwerewolves]. Both bands sound great live, especially Teenage Rehab (and the Werewolves sound MUCH MUCH better than their recording, which I still enjoy, but it's not for everyone.) Both are from Kentucky. There's an American Werewolves from Cincinatti too, it looks like, don't know anything about them.

I also used to be all about Anamanaguchi [http://www.myspace.com/anamanaguchi], but I know they've got more internet fame than the others I mentioned. They have a new album out, too, I need to hear that.

And the day I can find a bunch of people who are into Circus Contraption as much as me, I will quite possibly hug them to death for being so bloody awesome. Yay for twisted circus music!
Are they anything like Dog Fashion Disco? If it consoles you at all, my cousin loved Dog Fashion Disco with a passion.

I just discovered Ayreon, never heard of them, nor have my friends, a pretty interesting band that blends progressive rock, electronica, some metal, with folk and other overtones. Also has some Pink Floyd influence. I think the proper name for their style is "space prog".
Ayreon is not a band, it's a series of Rock Opera's put together by one man, Arjen Anthony Lucassen.

When he gets the urge to start a new Ayreon album, he puts the word out and hires singers/musicians from other bands to play the parts he writes. Singers play the characters on his albums.
The Human Equation and 01011001 are probably my favorite albums of the project.

I was gonna say Protest the Hero ^^ Nobody ever knows about them
I know, right? My friend was talking about great metal bands and I mentioned Protest; then, when he gave me only a blank stare in return, I had to expose him to their genius.
I first discovered them watching Kerrang. I liked what I saw.

They Might Be Giants.
Awesome! I've only really heard 'Older' and another one ('Baghdad', I think), but I liked them both.[/quote]

Experimental Film and Spiralling Shape are pretty good.

Mr Bungle would be the most unheard of thing in my music collection I guess. Not a lot of people knew of At the Drive in / Mars Volta before the guitar hero games too I think
Aren't they just Faith No More in a different form? Or just MP or something like that =P

Band or not, still a good "group" or "project" whatever you want to call it. I also lie 01011001, but I also really like The Universal Migrator.

I'm a fan of Steve Vai. :3 Not really sure who else knows about him, but certainly none of my friends or family.
Steve Vai is GOD¡¡¡

*ahem* I'd go for Krakovia, no one knows about it and it's a shame, because they're pretty good

Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Raul Midon, Neutral Milk Hotel, Protest the Hero, Tegan and Sara, Glen Hansard, Thriving Ivory.

That's all I can think of for now.
I was gonna say Protest the Hero ^^ Nobody ever knows about them

Lets see here...
Fastlane, Powerman 5000, Still Remains aaaand They Might Be Giants. Not that nobody here will know about them, just that they're pretty obscure.
TMBG had a song about Constantinople correct?

I like The Exies and Hot Action Cop a lot- HAC are supposedly coming out with a new album (FINALLY!) some time this year or so. Fever For The Flava is still the most awesome Intercourse With You song [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/IntercourseWithYou] ever written.

I quite like Placebo, but non of my mates like/have even heard of them.
Dude, Placebo are hardly a band no-one else knows about. They're really very popular and I think they're fantastic; you just have rather ignorant mates. I could sing the refrain from Pure Morning ("a friend in need's a friend indeed") at almost anyone from my old school year and they'd say "oh THOSE guys!"
i love that song and i always forget placebo did it. >.<

btw, the exies were in guitar hero. pretty much everyone knows about them.
