What's a dead franchise that completely deserved to die?

definitely, DEFINITELY, army men. The very first one to come out on ps1 was great for it's time, and the air attack one was pretty fun, but from there, the series just got worse and worse.

Again, I don't know where you keep getting your info, but the Halo is alive and well, with Halo 3:ODST, and Halo:Reach, both in the works. Also for the record, if you don't like Halo, that's totally fine, gaming is all about opinion. But please, keep the Halo bashing away from the forums, we get enough of it as it is.
Well my Bungie contact told me ODST was their last one, so if there is a Halo: Reach Bungie won't be making it. To be quite frank, my information is a bit old dating back to the 07' GDC.
Yeah, that info is immensely outdated, Reach is out in 2010, plus Bungie has made no announcement regarding ending the franchise, and seeing as Halo generates enormous stacks of money, you can bet on the series being around for quite a bit longer.

Halo. That franchise ended after losing billions for Microsoft when people learnt from the horrible first two games and sensibly didn't get suckered in a third time when Halo 3 came out.
That's funny, because Halo 3 sold 9.95 million copies to date, it's one of the top selling games of all time. It made immense amounts of money for Microsoft and Bungie. So not only are you trolling, your also completely misinformed.
It is really not that obvious that I was joking?
No, if your trying to be funny, I would suggest either typing something genuinely funny, or outright telling people that you were making a joke, because as is, your post is flame-bait.
If you TELL people that a joke it a joke, then it no longer becomes funny. I should be able to tell a harmless joke without having to underline the punchline. If you read my post there are very obvious clues in it that it's not to be taken seriously.

Anyway, I'll refrain from telling Halo-related jokes in the future because it seems people are very sensitive about it for some reason that I can't quite work out.

Halo. That franchise ended after losing billions for Microsoft when people learnt from the horrible first two games and sensibly didn't get suckered in a third time when Halo 3 came out. I'm so grateful when Microsoft announced the cancellation of the project. Zero Punctuation's review also probably helped steer people away from it. It's awesome how gamers are so discerning these days and accept only the very best quality gaming that there is, never stooping to the lows of buying rushed sequels, cookie-cutter genre ripoffs and dumbed-down console failures. Oh wait...

Sorry I was in my parallel usiverse there for a second. Anyway - the Rainbow 6 franchise, I'm not sure if it's dead or not yet but Ubisoft have been doing their best to kill it off ever since Lockdown so it's only a matter of time. What used to be the most influential tactical shooter of all time (you can thank Rainbow 6 for expanding reticules and lethal headshots in FPS) is now basically a second-rate Gears Of War clone. A lot of newer gamers these days haven't even heard of Rainbow 6 and to be honest that's probably a good thing and exactly what Ubi deserve.
First off Halo3 sold 3.3 MILLION copies in the first TWELVE DAYS. Microsoft made insane amounts of money off of that game. Secondly, the project ended because Bungie, the company that made halo, left Microsoft. This is the primary reason that Halo Wars was made by Ensemble.

Secondly, Rainbow 6 doesn't need to die, just better developers. It is true that there has been a definitive decline in the amount of effort put into the games as of late, but it is still entirely possible to turn the series around.
Wow, so the Halo project DID end? Awesome! And to think I was only joking.
So in other words, I'm allowed to have an opinion on Halo just as long as I don't express it? I didn't realise Halo fans were so sensitive. Should I refrain from expressing my opinion about games on this gaming forum in future?

Anyway I'm being told different things by different people here. Some are saying the franchise has ended. So if you're wondering "where I'm getting my info", well, from other posters in this thread, actually.
Well the other posters have their info wrong then, and in regards to your opinion, it's fine, but don't devote an entire rant to it, we get that constantly. It's not new or special to hate Halo, especially not around here, seeing as there are entire legions of anti-halo nazis abounding these days, seeing another Halo-bash becomes very tiresome.

to continue with the actual DISCUSSION, if anybody even remembers this, arc the lad. last 3 games in the series sucked royally. pisser too because the first few games were pretty good back in the day.

the "Lego *insert franchise here*" video games. They deserved to die after the second Star Wars one, but they combined the first and second to make a third, then made an Indiana Jones one, then a Batman one. Let this stupid fad die NOW.

Okay, an actual on-topic post coming!
I think that the EyeToy series deserved to die. They weren't that good, and the technology often failed (for me at least).

Why? I thought these games were actually pretty good.

Just don't count the fact that they're making a Lego Rock Band and we'd be super.

Red alert also (I hope it's dead). The depiction of the soviets in two was just ludicrous.
RA isn't dead, there was a third game a while ago. And yes, it was worse than RA2. At least the Soviets in RA2 had that intentional-cliché charm about them (let us not speak of Yuri, EVER - except in the context of the Japanese visual arts, ofc), the entire GAME of RA3 was just ridiculous. There are a few interesting units (the Mecha/Jet Tengu is somewhat funny, Yuriko is a nice touch), but apart from those few, the whole game smacks of overdone attempts to be funny and still trying to be a serious game, resulting in a swing and a miss in both cases.

OT: The (Noun) Tycoon series. To my knowledge, they haven't released one recently and pretty much everything besides Zoo Tycoon sucked. I'm looking at you Mall of America....
Oi, Transport Tycoon rocks. And Locomotion is a game in the same vein as the Tycoon series (basically Transport Tycoon with the Rollercoaster Tycoon engine), and while opinions are apparently mixed, I like it a lot. (I can't speak for Rollercoaster Tycoon itself, I've never played it.)

Opinions are fine, but anvilicious Halo bashing has been done so many times before it just isn't funny anymore. I'm neither a fan nor a hater, but still I don't like your post, it isn't funny in the slightest. You're not "expressing your opinion", you're bashing the game in an unrelated thread.

Oh. My. GOD. I just wanted to make that exact joke when I decided to check for new replies, you mean they're actually doing it? Oh my god. I have..... I have no words for it.

On topic:
-Empire Earth. The first game was OK and all, but the second veered so far away from the framework of the first that it wasn't deserving of the name Empire Earth II - instead, it had become a lame Rise of Nations clone with no redeeming qualities.
-Age of Empires. The first was pretty good, the second was just plain good, the third, like in my previous example, was so very different that it wasn't really AoE anymore.
-Dune RTSes. Don't get me wrong, the concept is awesome, but Westwood has monopolised them (and no-one else even TRIED, I believe, especially now that EA has the rights) and it's always been basically more of the same, stuck in a rut with the same factions, the same basic units, the same tactics. E:BFD was stretching it, and while the game was fun, the core gameplay elements were no different from the previous games.

OK, I thought the first one was alright, the problem is that they're all the same game, just with different characters and environments that still manage to feel EXACTLY THE SAME. It's worse than Madden, and that's saying a hell of a lot.

I know, I'm hoping that that was the last one we'll see (that's why I added the brackets afterwards, it's a bit too soon to tell).

The Army Men series. I thought they were fun when I was under 10 years of age but now I see that they sucked. However I do find a certain degree of humor from enemy soldiers melting when you use a flame thrower on them.

The Shadow the Hedgehog series.

IT was bad enough Sonic was being a franchise zombie at this point, but the fact that they tried to make a spinoff franchise with Shadow as the star was just sad.

I for one am glad they weren't that stupid. Though they could prove me wrong anyday.

I hope farcry soon dies or at least goes back to EXACTLY the same makers of the originals. I wasted over 100 bucks on preordering that piece of shit "sequel" farcry 2(but in all fairness i got some cool stuff to boot). It had nothing to do with the other AWESOME farcry games, it was frustrating as hell, constantly bugged out and was just to realistic and graphicy(games that spend millions including the best graphics into their games but not so good gameplay). AND WHERE THE FUCK WAS JACK CARVER!

(to answer peoples questions here goes)Final Fantasy still survives because in this world there are far too many final fanboys(as I like to call them) who would shell out 500 bucks for a different system and another 100 bucks just so they could jerk off to the wonder of "Klaus hair maintaining simulator". It's a cashcow franchise and has probably kept Hironobo Sakaguchis(cheers wiki!) cocaine pile high for many a year.
