I must admit, I really like sequels to things, even ones that are almost empirically worse than the first game I still extremely enjoy, i.e. Bioshock 2. I could mention games that are common answers or ones that are going to get sequels, like Half-Life, but I don't really have any games that warrant sequels that are unique. I have games I really liked at the time but I know that they logically have no sequel potential, primarily Second Sight, a game that was fairly mediocre except for an awesome twist. The most notable thing was the twist to the story and that doesn't really warrant a sequel. I would like to see another LA Noire game, that gameplay style but in a new time or place, and that is supposedly being made by the remnants of Bondi, though info is rare on it.
The one game I can think of the most really has no reason to ever be made, and it is Manhunt 3. I loved the Manhunt games despite the fact that to most people, they are horrible games. They have repetitive gameplay and most people see them as torture porn games. I tend to agree, but I loved the stories that accompanied those silly gameplay mechanics. If you skip the story, the entire game is essentially about murdering people in brutal ways, seems like an awful concept for a game. But what I liked about them both was how they justified the behavior. The first one did it best, you are a man who has been kidnapped and forced to partake in a snuff film. It is literally kill or be killed and you are not a willing participant. Doesn't excuse the brutality of the kills but gives the player an interesting dynamic, especially since the player character was kidnapped from his own lethal injection, meaning his backstory is that he already did something to warrant being executed and now is being forced against his will to murder people.
The second game has a more interesting story but it does a little less to justify the violence. The story is focused on an obvious twist that I was oblivious to so I have an overwhelming positive regard for the game. However, it was just as repetitive as the first game and was a failure because of the AO rating and censorship efforts.
That said, I feel if effort was put into a sequel, it could be a great game. If some effort went in to making the stealth mechanic less repetitive, and the controls were modernized, the game could be very interesting. The first 2 games had clunky shifts between stealth and shooting and I think modern game designs could make these actually interesting instead of jarring shifts in style.
Also, I would like another Max Payne game, I have no idea where they could go with it, I would assume it would have to take place between Max Payne 2 and 3 since Max is way to old now, but I would love it to death if it was done. As long as they secure the James McCaffrey for Max's voice, if they cannot do that, they shouldn't bother, make a new game with bullet time but don't let anyone else talk for Max Payne.
