summed up, the scotish hate the english, the irish hate the english, the welsh like living miles away from a town center, and the english just generally hate. everthing. i live in portsmouth, and they all hate; people from the north, people from scotland, people from ireland, people from france, people from america, people who don't live in their house, people who do live in their house, people who don't have their exact gentic code, ect. never-the-less its a nice country, i'm just a crazy ranting native.
While all of that is true, I believe the Scottish and the Irish like each other, primarily because we both hate the English. At least that's my understanding of it. As I don't know any Scots who dislike the Irish and vice verse.

South is ok, north is a scumhole. Sorry northeners.
Actually, that's the complete opposite. I've lived in the south, in the Midlands (for most of my life), and now live up north (Leeds), and I have to say that a lot of people down south who I met are pretty boring and that it's pretty bad down there. The only way it's better is that there are better paying jobs there, a lot of southerners (particularly the South East) are quite rich. Up north, people are much friendlier and happier and I really feel at home here. I prefer the north much more.
Damn right

I went to Scotland and Newcastle, and it was brilliant!

I'm Irish by the way.
Hey, if you team up with us (the north) and Scotland, we could take down London and the south, then from a glorious new nation of "Awesome Britain (No southerners allowed)"

Or maybe "Awesome Damp Islands (No southerners allowed)", since there's a bit too much baggage with "Britain"

I really don't like it, and I live here. Britain is basically a bit crap these days. Completely run down, dirty, with trains and busses that don't run, and chavs everywhere asking for you to go into the off-license for them.
Yup, I'm British and thats a perfect summary of Britain these days, its a miserable shit hole and I'm sick of it. I can't wait to move across the pond to NYC after university

Really!?!?!

Bad weather, bad food, everything is more expensive then everywhere else, we get somethings last (dvd's and such) and chavs are a huge problem.

As Bill Bailey said "we crave disappointment", "we're just a bunch of stoned, illiterate, wheezing, shagging, lardy bastards".

Thats why I am hoping to move to aus a.s.a.p.

It's alrite. We can drink at 18 (legally) we get money from the government to go to university. There's argos.
The history is old and stuff. London is a bit poo imo, don't really like it. People seem friendlier in the north. healthcare is free.
I do want to leave here for somewhere else when I get the chance then maybe come back and settle down after a few years abroad.
Nice countryside, we've got Dr Who and some really good music festivals and decent internet. It rarely snows (apart from right now) normally rains, we drive on the correct side of the road.
That's about it really.

Hey it could be worse. You could have had the misfortune to be born in some shithole country in Eastern Europe, any country in Africa, south America, or a hundred and one other places where life sucks immeasurable amounts of ass in comparison to the UK. Places where they actually have important things to worry about, not petty things like getting DVD's later than our cousins across the Atlantic.

Just be thankful for what we've got, that's the way I see it. It's not perfect, but where is?

:)

There's a lot of things wrong with England, and Britain but by God if Family Guy ever manages to put any of those things into a coherent form and incorperate them into the format of an episode I shall jump off the Humber Bridge.
They're called asides and Shakespeare used them.
Ha, no.

Family Guy is terrible. I can only do the specials and the first couple of series. Maybe it's because us britain's have superior comedy.

Oh. Segway!

Britain is great for comedy.

Still, one of the best? It's mediocre at best. Think of all the awesome places to live, Dubai for a start, were a 1 bedroom flat can be as much as £70 million.

No! You'll find the North-EAST is a scumhole. I'm allowed to say that because I live there.

But anyway, to be honest, where I live is decent enough, there are a lot less chavs than there were say, 2 years ago. The night life is amazing, the weather is terrible, there are so many different accents it's actually ridiculous and we have a sense of humour that the most other nations don't seem to understand. Hope that helped.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot about our amazing government. Everytime a single particle of snow hits the floor, every school, shop and workplace in the entire country is closed. Don't you just love a good old over-reaction.
The North-East isn't a scumhole! Just most of it is.

I know Middlesbrough and Stockton aren't great but what about all the wonderful country villages -- and Yarm!

OT: Well anyway I'd say Britain is pretty damn sweet, people in general have a good sense of humour and, in general, keep to themselves.

Where do you bloody live?!

OT: It's cool - ignore the minor group BNP retards and everyone's OK. The weather's constantly in a state of 'meh' though.
Birkenhead. It's in Merseyside, the other side of the river from Liverpool.
Hmm, well I don't know about there - Norwich is fine though.

I don't know what it's like outside of Staffordshire really, but I live in a rural town called Rugeley and it's not very British really. The weather is usually pretty dreary, but it's a valley and there's a power station near by so we don't really get the snow that everyone else is having this time of year.

Also there's a heavy Indian Muslim community here, so much that this year we weren't allowed to put up Christmas lights in the town centre.

Pretty god damn decent; free health care, free education (for me anyway ;)), good music, good TV, fascinating history, excellent culture in general.

When compared to much of Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and South America I couldn't complain.

well I could, can and will because I'm British but yeah, Pretty sweet here in Ol' Blighty

I've lived in the North and the South and like the North a lot more - people are just more friendly. When I got lost in a city in the South/Midlandsish sort of area I had to buy copies of Big Issue from the homeless guys to get directions. When I got lost in Manchester a guy with no shirt and tattoos came up to me and my partner and very kindly and polity explained where we should go.

Am in Newcastle at the moment and like the people a lot. But I guess that depends on the person - some folks are not in to striking up conversations with total strangers, I find people interesting :)

We are bloody good at queuing. If you go to a railway station and three windows are open to buy tickets, we tend not to form 3 queues - for speed and efficiency we make one queue and go to the next available window. Much more fair and efficient and always done without a word of organisation (my mental image of a lot of Europeans, from personal experience, is that they just do not know how to queue).

I'm not overjoyed with government/education/healthcare at the moment. But those are things that do change and as the OP is more likely to be a tourist, it shouldn't really matter to him.

I love the history of our little isle. Walking part of Hadrian's Wall or visiting a medieval castle just puts a smile on my face. I'm lucky (sort of) to be old enough to remember when you could visit Stonehenge and touch the stones.

The weather is about what you can expect if you look at where we are on a globe. As a visitor, you pays your money and you takes your choice. You aren't going to get the riviera in the UK. And the reason we talk about the weather a lot is because we get so much of it.

Yes there is a yob element. But I doubt that is unique to the UK either. Certainly there are places in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area that I would be wary of, but that most cities have their dodgy areas. Hell, when I visited San Francisco a number of years ago we handed a cabby an address of a comic book shop that my brother wanted to visit and the guy told us that it was in a part of town that we would not want to go.

Well it's a nice, tolerant place apart from a small minority of our youth that really shouldn't be allowed to live (to those who know what it means, the chavs).

Which is why I am moving to aus, alot nicer there and everything is cheaper than in England.

I know they have a crazy policy relating to games but I will just get my brother to buy them for me in England and post them to me.

Sounds like a good plan! :D

Although personally, I think Aus would be a bit hot for me, but to each his own :p
