Trying to follow his hands is like trying to follow a horde of bees and keep your eyes on every individual bee.

There is a pretty interesting band by the name of My Own Private Alaska. They're a French experimental band consisting of a classical pianist, drummer, and screamer, really interesting stuff.

Yes I am.
Nice, what do you play? Just curious.
Piano, saxophones, mallot percussion, auxiliary percussion.
Ah! Interesting! I'm a musician myself, and play saxophones, piano, and sing. Always nice to meet a fellow musician.
Very cool.
You any good on the piano / sax?
(Vocals are overrated.)
Working for my grade 8 on saxophone, and grade 8 theory. Also preparing for my conservetoire auditions. I mostly play jazz, but starting to play more classical. Been playing the piano for about 6 months, to aid composition and because of how great it sounds..so not great at the moment. ;)

Hehe, I've been trained vocally, but I'll never be a great.

Yourself?

Grade 8 is pretty good, if it's the same as grade 8 here.

I'm grade 8 for piano and sax. I was classically trained on piano, high school band route on sax.

I play jazz now, on both.

I've never had vocal lessons, so I pretty much suck.
I sound better when I sing in a Scottish accent, though. It's weird.

I'm really surprised that no-one has mentioned Clair de Lune by Claude Debussy.
Clair de Lune should go without saying. Such a delicate and pretty piece. The Maid with the Flaxen Hair is also beautiful,
as is Doctor Gradus Ad Parnassum.

I absolutely love Rachmaninov's Second Piano Concerto as well. Such grandeur in the thing.
(The sync is a bit off, though, so if you are a stickler for that kind of thing, just listen and don't watch =P)

EDIT: And yes, I do play the piano, but that's secondary to my cello.

And I can't play stuff like this with my piano skills.

Haha, that's a first ;)

Grade 8 is the highest grade you can be examined for here. Should be interesting.

Nice, I love jazz music. Just wish more people were into it.

Oh, and I forgot about these gems:

If you want lightning and thunder in your piano music, look no farther than Germany's very own Ludwig van Beethoven for his Moonlight Sonata

Mozart wrote this nice little movement in his A Major piano sonata:

The Piano Concerto No. 2 in C minor by Rachmaninov is my favourite piece of classical piano music of the romantic period. It is sublime. He wrote it after coming out of a major depression:

For more contemporary music, check out these:

- The piano solo by Harry Connick Jr at the end of Booker
- Some of the piano playing by Tori Amos in Little Earthquakes is very nuanced and crisp
- Most of Ben Folds stuff...he plays the piano like a percussion instrument...it's a lot of fun to play his stuff
- Anything by Oscar Peterson...My favourite album is Last Call

Hey, I already mentioned that! (EDIT: It does merit two mentions, though, due to its inordinate levels of greatness)

For that, you must listen to a Zelda piano medley (which is beautiful, by the way)

Is that sarcasm? or do you actually enjoy it? most of the people that I introduce to the band don't like it.

Also, what would be a good starting point for Ben Folds? I enjoyed his song 'Rockin the suburbs'

Well, it's not exactly piano music you can listen to casually, but you haven't lived until you've seen this:
I love you so much for posting this. It's been awhile since I saw it, hilarious stuff especially for a music student who had to study Rachmaninov (who's awesome btw)

And I've got something for you!

wait a sec...it's here somewhere...

oh yes, here we gooo...

[sub]Political views aside, pic submitted merely in felicitations and nothing else, also I am not responsible for the awful grammar on the picture itself. No refunds or exchanges sorry[/sub]
