I quite liked the old DOS adventure "I have no mouth and I must scream".
Sorry, I don't want to discuss it (I'm lazy), but if you have some spare time, I recommend checking it out.
This^
Basically it's based on a short story centered around the end of the world where a super computer has taken over and is using the last 6 people on earth as torture victims for fun. You play through each victim, trying to figure out their story and pass their torture ordeal. It's a little hard to explain, but the first let's play on youtube does a wonderful job on showcasing it.

There was a fighting game on the Sega Dreamcast set in the 1920's with a slight steampunkish theme.

Apparently it was called Power Stone

Ladies and gentlmen. This is the very definition of Nostalgia

House of the Dead 2 on the Dream Cast. I loved the game because it was easy enough to the point where i could sit down and enjoy it with my buddies. It was one of those zombie rail shooters its supposed to be an arcade game like at Dave & Busters but they made it for the Dream Cast. I would recommend this game if you have a Dream Cast Because it is really fun if you can play it with your best friend for hours! you might be able to find it at a game store if they still have 1998 games there.
This is what I came to post about! Such a fun game. That whole series is good.

Sega Saturn's A+M+O+K.
Sega Saturn's Virtua Fighter.
Graphics didn't really mean much at the time. The amount of time I spent on these games when I was a kid is astounding.

There was this old PC game that I used to play as a kid called Jazz Jackrabbit 2. It was fucking awesome, it was like a combination of Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog.

I never considered jazz jackrabbit or vampire the masquerade total unknown but I loved both too so those are the first ones of my 'special games'

but the one I haven't heard yet I'm not sure it's ever officially published. I played insane horizons from a twilight cd. I can't find the official game or any mention of the game anywhere. It was a great trade/pirate/royal navy open world game (the first and best of that kind and second open world I played first being daggerfall)

Mind you this was 486 MS-DOS area so pre-internet

NieR. That game is one of the few with a story that completely captivates me and with a plot twist at the end to really shock me. And that's not mentioning the perfect soundtrack it carries inside it.

Little Kings Story on the Wii it's like Pikmin mixed with a town/troop management game.

My chinese friend bought it for me. Its really cute and silly. Yahtzee would probably want to kill it with fire lol.

Lunar originally for sega CD, eventually ported to PS1 and GBA. Honestly a pretty typical JRPG, but I love the hell out of it.

Zero divide for the PS1 and I think the Sega Saturn.
XIII for PS2.
Zero divide was one of the first 3D fighting games and it did it well. The soundtrack is pretty good too.
XIII is very well done. The story is engaging, the graphics are nicely cell-shaded for the time, and it has a very fun multiplayer that is reminiscent of Team Fortress 2.

Zero Divide!

Someone else knows about this game? I seriously thought I was the only one.

You deserve a pat on the back good sir. Great fighting game, and it was one of the first Playstation games I ever played. I have some serious nostalgia for that game.

XIII is great as well, so incredibly underrated.

Also, Baten Kaitos is my favourite RPG, but yet hardly anyone has ever heard of it. Which is insane considering how good it really is.

Why thank you good sir! :)
While I'm here, I guess I should say that I thought South Park Rally and Grudge Warriors were great games. Both for the PS1.

Legend of Mana

This game is the most underrated game of all time. It simply came out too soon. The whole game is a metaphor about the subject of will over matter. The aspect that I find the most incredible about this game is that even the gameplay was part of this metaphor. You use your "imagination" to shape the game, since will dictates the state of the world. So you create the world map, you create your items, you can even create your sidekick piece by piece and make its own AI by constructing blocks of behavior. You even get to choose what 6 buttons on the controller did from a very very very vast list of possible actions. Anything you wanted to create, you could, you just needed to know how. And the whole story is also about that. But it's all hidden in some weird fairy tales.

Legend of Mana is the most solid proof of my knowing that video games are art. The title was just WAY beyond the masses' grasp, it plummeted and was forgotten forever by almost everybody. And to this day there are still plenty of gamers saying that Secret of Mana was great...

Arx Fatalis, it's just a brilliant game that's not been noticed. It's on Steam for so little money than a 5 year old could buy!

I mean, it's got an engaging spell casting system, great RPG elements, a large world full of interesting people and creatures and some awesome features.

OOH Eisely "Threadspace: Hyperbol!" If you have a Steam account you must download the demo for this! its a VERY strategic top down shooter-ish thing in SPAAAACE! I don't know how to describe it. its unlike anything you'll ever play. its especially great for smaller LAN parties.

No, seriously. try this fucking game. its both fastpaced, strategic and very innovative.
if you try this and wanna play some multiplayer, contact me through the escapist because there is really almoast none in the entire world who plays it. no, really all the (two) servers in the list of servers were empty everytime I checked. that is very very sad.

Jamestown. It's not old, but it's still a hell of a game.

It's a co-op bullet hell shmup that came out on Steam last month, with a 16-bit art style and very interesting aesthetic. And it's HARD. It's kind of sad that I haven't seen anybody talking about the game, seeing as it's only $10 and very, very good.

My only problem with the game is that multiplayer is local only, with no online capabilities whatsoever. So in order to get the full 4-player experience, you all have to be huddled around a computer monitor, each player gripping their own keyboard, mouse, gamepad, or other controller.
