I am going to have to go with Metallica who I saw last week. It was awesome they played all of their classic songs and you could really feel the energy of them performing.

ACDC 'Black Ice' tour in Warsaw in May this year.

They performed all of their greatest hits, made a great show (among many, many stuff, they entered the stage with a steam train, they rung the Hell's Bell, and they fired cannons and fireworks during a two-song encore [one of them was obviously Highway to Hell]), and a motherfucking 17- minute (I counted) guitar solo by Angus Young. So much energy and awesomeness, I couldn't sleep that night, and my throat had to recover at least two days, after my voice chords were shattered from screaming. In fact, I need to listen to ACDC right now after just typing this.
I went to see ACDC in March I think and I must agree with you that it was awesome. As far as a first concert goes I can't think of a better one than seeing them.

Dragonforce

There was so much energy in the room. I honestly have no clue why people say they are terrible, they played their songs very well missing only a few notes. Everyone was having fun in the room, no one had to be rushed to hospital, no one was raped or anything and when Through the fire and flames came on, it was just incredible

I guess it's from that one youtube video and a few of their first major gigs being drunk. Maybe originally they weren't that great but in December 2008 Rock City, they were incredible
DragonForce are Incredible live, I've seen them 3 times now. I have read interviews with Herman Li and actually, a lot of the problems with their bad performances were that they got famous almost faster than they could handle it. They were still having to do everything themselves and they didn't have guitar techs or proper sound guys so while on stage a lot of the time they couldn't hear what they were playing. It is extremely hard to try and play a song correctly if you can't hear what you are playing especially when trying to harmonize guitar parts with another guitarist. So that is what spawned some of the bad performances, but now they kick ass every single night due to having a good sound guy and inner ear monitors and whatnot.

To answer the actual question of the thread though, it is a very hard choice, it would have to be between the gods Iron Maiden, Tool with their insane screen effects and great music, Mayhem Festival 2009, such an insane line-up with highlights of Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, The Black Dahlia Murder, Behemoth and Trivium, and a concert I went to a few weeks ago with Suffocation headlining, The Faceless, Through The Eyes of The Dead, Decrepit Birth and Fleshgod Apocalypse opening. So many good concerts from so many amazing bands.

Oh well that might explain why I think they were amazing, I've only ever saw them live at 1000 or less sized gigs. I had no idea it was an actual deep problem, just a lot of people getting angry at them because of the one very popular youtube video when they played live and everyone getting their opinion from that.

END OF THREAD.
You have no idea just how jealous I am. :(

Now my "Ooh, Killwitch Engage" "Ah, Rick Astley" "Katatonia and Long Distance Calling" and "OMG, In Flames" feel disappointing to type.

I saw Faithless at Oxegen last summer.

They were awesome.

And I don't even like dance music.

I'm willing to bet nobody else will have said this...

Andrew WK at a little venue right before "Party Hard" came out as a mildly successful single.

He's by no means a supremely talented musician but he's just so into it, he loves the fans and he goes 110% to ensure everybody is having an absolute blast. I also saw him at the Warped Tour and he was awesome (just didn't play long enough before stupid The Used had to come suck up the energy).

Coolest part of Andrew WK at the Warped Tour was when he pulled up a six year old on stage, asked him if he knew the backup lyrics to "Party Hard" and then handed him a mike and did the song. That kid was so psyched, he'll probably never forget how he got to be in a band playing rock in front of a few hundred people.

I've been to quite a few gigs (about 10 this year in fact), but seeing the Dillinger Escape Plan a few weeks ago was a definite highlight. Some of the craziest pits I've ever been in.

Lacuna Coil in Gloucester, UK, in October of this year.

I'd seen the guys around (went to three of their gigs in total, within about 2 weeks), ended up chatting to the bassist, then my friend and I hung out with them in a bar for...about 2 hours before we went back to the bus with them, for another 3 hours. It was freaking AWESOME. I smoked a cigar with the drummer, and had a fantastic chat with them all.
Plus, we met Matt, who runs Empty Spiral, and Tiffany, who runs the Venezuela LC fansite, and they're two LOVELY people as well!

I developed a MAJOR crush on Maki (bassist)...he's so hot! :D

Tough call, I've seen a lot of bands. Saw Arcade Fire on thursday at the O2 Arena in London. That was incredibly fucking amazing.

Nine Inch Nails, Blur, Paul McCartney, The Strokes, Stevie Wonder and Flaming Lips were all amazing as well.

Video Games Live, the debut show in Glasgow, its first ever appearance in Scotland. That was one of the greatest nights of my life. Tommy Tallarico was incredibly polite to us, even understood some of the social nuances we had which were very appreciated.

Then came the furore of amazing videogame music orchestrated live in front of me.
I heard a choir sing "SEEEEEEGAAAAAAAAA!" that made everyone laugh and cheer.
I watched a guy play Frogger on a giant screen with orchestral accompaniment, as well as the same for Space Invaders.
I saw the composer of Mass Effect, Mr. Jack Wall, be the main composer.
I witnessed not only Baba Yetu from Civilisation IV sung in full Swahili by the choir, but also One Winged Angel in all of its Latin overrated glory to magnificent splendour.
I got the autographs of Tallarico and Jack Wall, shaking their hands and all.

And the last thing I saw that night, when I was exiting the concert doors....was a guy cosplaying as Fire Mario, smoking a cigarette.
It was, without a doubt, the greatest concert I ever went to.

Yeah, they played badly live at that show like I said due to no sound guy/not being able to hear their own instruments due to it, so everyone that has never seen them just pulls out that video and says look this concert is proof that they can't play live, which is complete bullshit. They are a damn good live band, and they just need to get a new singer and hit the road again.

Finntroll a couple of days ago, that was just the best ever. Nearly banged my head off, my neck still hurts.

Other than that, Ektomorf and Heaven Shall Burn was nice, too

It's either Iron Maiden at Sonisphere, if festivals count. So far that was the best day of my life. Brilliant songs, brilliant show. Definitely worth the hours of waiting and the crushing injuries.

Other than that, it's Slayer back in June. That was insane, an absolutely brutal pit and a setlist of dreams. We couldn't even walk over half the floor afterwards it was so wet from sweat and beer from the pit.

I'm quite sure the to me most amazing "concert" i "attended" wasn't actually a concert by conventional definition. We've got a giant festival in a city district here every year. A few years ago, a shoegazer/dreampop band named malory played there - on the roof of a 2-story building.... enveloping about 6 houseblocks in a wall of psychedelic effects-ladden guitarsound :)

Friday night of Bloodstock 2010.

Opeth, Meshuggah, Ensiferum.

Seriously good, especially since Opeth are my fave band.
I envy you. I really want to go to Bloodstock some time, it's just so damn far away from me.

Best I've been to was Heavy MTL 2010 in Montreal. It had Slayer, Megadeth, Mastadon, Fear Factory, Alice Cooper, Lamb of God, Testament, and a few other that I don't really remember. It was a really fun weekend.
