Got S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 1 & 3 for $5

I usually prefer hard copies, but you just gotta love Steam holiday sales.
Indeed. I grabbed both Left 4 Dead games at $7 a piece from steam.

Protip: Pirated games don't count.
Steam sales shouldnt count either. Thats just cheating.

OT: I have a friend that works at game stop, and we know the guy that runs it. So when he gets a brand new game with the box and stuff that he knows or thinks I would like, he saves it away, says the game was broken (they allow something like 5 games for every so many they get in to be broken and count it in the Cost of Goods Sold), and keeps it for me. I then go in and buy it, and he takes it on the Sale price. The Used price. Then gives me discounts on the discount prices. So I get new $59.99 games for something like $5 bucks her so.

In fact, I remember the one day I said all I had was a dollar, and so he lowered the price so low it wound up being something like $0.72. And that was WITH a controller. So thats $59.99 game plus however much the controller was (I wanna say) $35.99 for $0.72.

I got HL: Blue shift for -£5. Yes. Minus £5. It was part of a £10 off deal, but was priced at £5. They honoured it. :)

It's the best deal that we've gotten. Also the sales are legal and come from a company. It's not just buying something second hand from someone who is desperate to get some cash from a game they haven't touched in years.

Ahem, then again, I'm on of those people that doenst like Steam. But I find it a bad business model that needs to be destroyed, from the economic level.

I bought The Orange Box for $15. Considering there's 5 games, that's $3 a game. Considering that Portal is in it, i essentially bought the best motherfucking game period for $3, plus the Half-Life 2 series. True they're short and not really up to snuff with current gen graphics, but at this point i say FUCK CURRENT GEN GRAPHICS! Half-Life 2 and Portal were beautiful envoys from a time when game design had a higher standard. I don't care if a game has N64 era graphics, if it's fun to play and has a good story then FUCK OFF HALO, I'M PLAYING THE UGLY ONE!!
...sorry, got a little worked up.

I also bought Modern Warfare 1 for $5, and Modern Warfare is easily the best Call of Duty title.
...which isn't saying much, but hey.

I've gotten many deals over the years, most of from a guy who ran a used game shop who'd sell me games for what he paid for them. Like I got FFVII a week after it came out for $14.95. He'd also let me borrow inventory which was awesome. No need to rent before buying. Speaking of which, I also befriended a dude who ran a used computer software store which would let me do the same. That priviledge was short-lived though cause his shop got broken into and he ended up losing his job. Pretty sure the owner did it though because his shop was not doing well at all. Collect insurance and close down shop.

But the best deal I got recently was a copy of KillZone 3 for free. Sucks I'm not a fan of the series, nor even desired the game in the least. But definitely can't beat the price.

I will have to disagree with you on that one. I think it's actually a great idea and could actually be implemented quite well in the future. If you think about Game Stops used games system vs. Steam sales, Steam sales are actually better for developers and publishers. The person who only ends up buying a game because of a Steam Sale would have been the person who searches for it used in Game Stop. If you buy used from Game Stop 0% of that money goes to developers. I would believe through Steam at least some of it would go to developers and that is better than nothing. While Steam isn't a perfect system it's something that should definitely be looked into so we have systems that help developers and gamers better than things like project ten dollar.

I found the original Silent Hill, used, for $9.99 at a local game shop (which is a pretty good deal in itself - it's pretty old, and new copies go for $70).
So I immediately took it to the counter.
The clerk goes to ring it through and says "Hm, that's weird. It says on the computer that it only costs one cent. I guess I'll just change that..."
His manager happened to be there, and he said "That's what the computer says, that's what the kid will pay."
So I got (what would become) one of my favourite games of all time, which is pretty hard to find...

For one penny.

And I didn't have a penny on me. I had to bum one off my dad. :p

I disagree. It creates a void in the market and a monopoly, because you're buying (near if not) full games online. You think developers will be happy that they're making $11 on a $60 game? Haha, you're out of your mind. Steam is something that should be stopped, and soon, before "Steamites" (as my friends and I call them) want it to be bigger, better, and more comprehensive.

And its always nice to have the physical copy, since if your computer gets wiped you're fucked. And develpers will be turned off by people asking for their games back, when its hard to prove you're not just trying to get a free game and customers will dislike developers cause they didnt give them the game they bought. It creates a powderkeg waiting to happen.
