You do realize that Steam has to make deals with the developers in order to make the games available right? This means they are fully aware of sales. Also other than the sales Steam tends to charge MORE on games which means most of the time the developers would get even more money. The only reason Steam can get away with the deals is because the games are getting older. Left 4 dead 2 is nearing its second year of being released and everyone who would buy it new has probably already done so. This is the point where everyone goes for used copies from Games Stop which equals 0 revenue for developers. I'd much rather have deals available that give me at least something than see people get it for nothing.emeraldrafael said:I disagree. It creates a void in the market and a monopoly, because you're buying (near if not) full games online. You think developers will be happy that they're making $11 on a $60 game? Haha, you're out of your mind. Steam is something that should be stopped, and soon, before "Steamites" (as my friends and I call them) want it to be bigger, better, and more comprehensive.Ca3zar416 said:Snip
And its always nice to have the physical copy, since if your computer gets wiped you're fucked. And develpers will be turned off by people asking for their games back, when its hard to prove you're not just trying to get a free game and customers will dislike developers cause they didnt give them the game they bought. It creates a powderkeg waiting to happen.
Also two problems with your other scenario. Once you buy a game on steam as long as you can log in to it again (which means all you need to remember is user name and password) then you are able to install it on a computer. Which means that you don't lose any games from getting a new computer or losing data on a computer. Steam also keeps track of achievements and progress so you won't lose any of that either.
