What's the best game you ever got for free?

Demon's Souls. A user from these forums contacted me in private and offered to mail me a copy all the way over from Europe, just because she'd seen me rant about my country's fucked up economy and limited imports. Best act of random kindness I ever enjoyed.
Basically, we're down to either gifts or F2P games in my case.
Personally, I have a hard time remembering which of my games was a gift, so let's just go with STO.
I like Star Trek, but I'm not obsessed with it like...well...the more-obseesed people. An F2P game is something I can work at for as long as I want without having to worry about limits of time and money. In this case, I like cool ships and fighting with them. I like a degree of exploration and discovery as well. Some aspects of the game are blah, but not enough to make it unappealing.

I didn't say anything about the content of the game itself. The page I linked to made it sound like it was alright. I've just never heard an origin story to a visual novel/dating sim like that.thesupremegamer said:

I remember being a part of a group of people on a podcast (As a listener), and one of the members said he had a code for "Super Meat Boy", and if you messaged him, it was yours. No one touched it forever, so I sent the guy a message. I couldn't run it on my computer, but he sent it to me anyway.
The other was a free copy of Penny Arcade Episode 3 that somebody posted in the gaming discussion. Needless to say, I grabbed that as well. I love the Penny Arcade Adventures. As far as console games go, My aunt bought me a copy of Mega Man Legends when I was 9 or 10. Bad....Ass...

League Of Legends... I don't know if I should count that game as free though. I've probably spend 200+ bucks on RP... Moving on! I enjoyed the game when all of my friends played it. For about a month it was all I played. Then they stopped playing and I HATE randoms, so I rarely play anymore.
I got a PlayStation 1 and Xenogears for Christmas when I was a kid, that was pretty amazing as free games go.
I also got Mass Effect 1 as a gift so that too.
Genuinely free and not a gift, I guess Sleeping Dogs. Pretty good game but not anywhere in the league of some of the gifts I have received.

Pokémon Heart Gold, Lovely remake of my second favorite generation, with lots of fun extra activities.
My girlfriend got me Castlevania: Double Pack of Aria of Sorrow & Harmony of Dissonance for Christmas. It was the first game she got for me because I told her I had never heard that such a thing existed and that I was a semi-heavy player of the Castlevania series.
Not too long ago, I also got from her Megaman StarForce 2: Zerker/Saurian. She has quite the knack for finding hard to find games, or ones I would think would never exist anymore.

I got the Xbox 360 version of Oblivion GOTY edition from a friend who hated it. If you've seen any of my Top 10s on this forum you'd know that Oblivion always ranks in the Top 3 (it's currently number 2, I'd have to check whether that's a rise or stayed the same). I love the Shivering Isles, I love it to death. It also turns out that I'm much more comfortable with playing melee classes on the console version, but the PC version still dominates casting thanks to the superior aim. It's actually made me consider getting the Skyrim console version as it won't be the PlayStation 3 version (sorry PS3 owners).
