Two words: Complete Customisation. If you know how, you can do it.

On a console, you get sued by the manufacturer.

Not trolling; personal opinion.

Mouse, Keyboard, Mods, Community, Multi-tasking and Choice.

Mouse + Keyboard : It is my preferred method of playing FPS games, MMO games, RTS games and RPG games, (and many more besides). If I want to play a fighting game or a racing game I can plug in a controller.

Mods : I'm sure they have been mentioned enough on this thread.

Community : I have found that the online PC communities have a leaning to more mature gamers. This of course is a generalisation, but it's easier to find and join a good community on PC than any other platform.

Multi-tasking : I can be here writing on the forums, while streaming internet radio on one screen, and on my second screen by playing an FPS or RTS, which in many cases has been enhanced by a mod of some sort.

Choice : Other than exclusives theres not much reason to play on a console. If I want to use a gamepad I can plug one in. I can hook my pc up to a TV, and grab a gamepad or get a mouse and keyboard tray and sit on my couch. Being on the PC gives me a wider choice to enjoy the games I like, the way I like.

For me personally, it all comes down to superior image quality and framerate.

PCs have been doing 720p HD (1024x768) for almost 20 years now. Though widescreen PC gaming is only about 10 years old, people have been playing in 1600x1200(4:3) for years now, long before the first HDTV hit the market. I have 2 gaming rigs, one that runs at 1920x1200, which is slightly higher than HDTV(1920x1080), and another that runs at 2560x1600, far higher than any HDTV you can buy.

The second highlight is framerate. Standard consoles on standard televisions are LOCKED into 29.97 FPS(aka 30 fps). HD consoles like the PS3 on HD TVs have a cap of 60 fps. To me, 30 fps appears choppy and disgusting. I prefer 60 fps and up. The problem with consoles here is that a chug(drop in framerate) that occurs during gameplay is unfixable. Framerate drops occur when the systems hardware can't pump out the visuals needed at a steady framerate, thus the framerate decreases. In a PC, you can just sell you graphics card for half what you bought it for, buy a new graphics card, and the problem is resolved. In consoles, you cannot do this. You have to wait 3~5 years for the next generation to be released; and even then, it may not be backwards compatible.

The PC versus console debate usually brings up controls. While this is an area where they differ, I don't believe it is an element that can be used as fact. People have different control preferences; preference is not a measurable fact.

The mouse is pretty much the main reason. It's pretty much the only way to play RTS games, and it makes navigating menus a dozen times easier.
Also: Mods.

What most of the other posters are saying; mods, key and mouse, the games that come out on PC appeal to me more, etc. But I like console gaming too; I own a PS2, a Wii and back in the day I owned an xbox (I had to sell it to pay rent though). I'd love an xbox360 or a PS3, sigh...

But I'd never abandon PC gaming. It's my first lurve and there are a lot more different types of games to choose from. I know a lot of games come out on multiple platforms, but most of those games work better on a PC anyway IMO.

For me it boils down to freedom. Modders can add content to otherwise well-played games and give them a new lease on life. Baldur's Gate Tutu mod comes to mind when I think of this.

Meh, I don't know. I've being gaming on both as long as I can remember and I've never understood why there has this divide between console and PC gamers. For me, I'll play just about any game regardless of platform, the only requirement is that it has to entertain me. PC, console, I don't care. It's all good as far as I'm concerned. ...or rather it used to be.

This is modded pc Oblivion. I couldn't find a pic to sum up all the awesome that comes with modding. If I could play games on this pc, I would show you how my oblivion used to be (better that god damn Crysis 2!)!

The only real reason I would need to buy a console are the games. If developers weren't such assholes and made their game available to all the audiences, rather than sucking on Sony's and Microsoft's money chute, the world would be a much better place and people would see the futility of the whole console vs console vs PC argument.

[small]Still butthurt about not owning God of War III...[/small]

Ok, WTH is with all the "graphics are better" crap? Ultimately, does that REALLY improve a game? I'm a PS3 girl, but I like PC games just as well...

I just see no point in arguing over graphics unless the font the developers used is absolute shit (but then it's the game designers' fault, not the system) because plenty of great games with rather crappy graphics (coughxMINECRAFTxcough) have been made and loved by lots of people.

So should that REALLY be a point in favor of a system? Which one is ultimately shinier than the other?

Just a little thing I want to ask any PC gamers about. What's the appeal in playing on a PC over a console?
1. Open platform games - mods are good for everyone, except for people who support consoles, they get left out of the mod community.

2. Controller flexibility - don't like a mouse? plug in a controller. don't like a controller? plug in a joy stick and throttle. if those don't work you can get a steering wheel. Personally I find a mouse & keyboard is the most versatile "controller" of them all, but I also have a joystick & throttle form my Battlefield 2 days.

3. Cost - you already pay for internet, don't add on an xbl expense. Steam sales are fantastic. I got Fallout: New Vegas for $25 during the Christmas sale. Furthermore, HIGH END graphics cards are about the same price as a console, so assuming you were thinking ahead when you bought a PC, your mobo has a PCI E slot, and the net cost of start up is less than consoles.

4. Hardware advancement - technology moves faster in the modular world of PCs, consoles atm are behind, though making full use of the tech isn't something devs always have time for. Now I'm going to quote 80sguy cause he explains it pretty well

5. Community - its not that the PC gaming community is perfect, its just that its INFINITELY better than xbl community.

...and those are all the reasons I need.

Anyone else go, 'Whats the big deal about airline food?!' when they read this threads title? No, just me? Aww I feel old...

Answer: Better security (against hacks, trolls, and all the evils of gaming), Graphics (more adjustable options for your preferences. I'd gladly lower graphics to get higher frame rates), Mods (And I guess the community, but this varies from game to game), and I like keyboard and mouse for most of my games. Now that might just be because I'm more used to it but again like the Consoles VS PC war its all about your tastes.

May I suggest a texture pack? It gives a new feel to the game and makes it gorgeous! I like having a round sun and moon, darker grass, wood and neat little sprites. I'd say, look up the painterly pack.

pc's tend to have better graphics, a mod community, more accurate controls (when you become aclimated to them), lan parties, portability, you can play with a controller from a console, they are cheaper over the long run (if you/ a frend build and add parts to your pc), fewer 12 year olds with mics, and free online gaming for most games.

the down sides: the gap in skill level is wider than the grand canyon, cheaters/ hackers, some games get WAY to competitive online, its hard to get into, its harder to come across other pc gamers (consoled gamers are a dime a dozen), hand cramps are more frequent, and you generally have to spend more money on accessories than you do console

every system has its pros and its cons. you juist have to look at the market and what each provides and way your options. personally, im a semi-competative gamer that prefers a little bit of a universal handicap when playing other people (console games have a slower turn rate while pc gamers can pull a 180 instantly), i like the social aspect of gaming, and little kids dont bother me so i go with consoles for most of my games. i dont blow off pc entirely, i just tend to buy around 60% of my games on console

I usually don't see the preference of one over the other. I usually play PC games when I can't play it on my console. I don't have anything wrong with the mouse and keyboard, I just prefer a controller.
Everyone has oppinions, you know.

Damn you ninjas!
XD. I stopped playing tf2 when the medic update came out. Then I picked it up again after the engie update, and the I quit again after that ridiculous update around Christmas. Valves is all over the place when it comes to tf2, at this point I think they're just trying to see what they can get away with.
