Although honestly DSoTM is weak on concept compared to what is truly their masterpiece, The Wall, now THAT is truly the greatest concept album of all time, so much so that the concept could not be contained by the album and it had to be adapted to film.
And thirty years later, be made into a world tour. Which I went to. It was awesome.

I sort of agree with you. Sort of because, The Wall and Dark Side are a bit different. The Wall has a story to it and Dark Side doesn't really have a clear one. Both deal with themes, the biggest being isolation and lunacy respectively. I just see The Wall as a story concept-album and Dark Side as more of a theme concept-album. Does that make sense? Or have I gone over the rainbow?

There is a film version of Quadrophenia, I haven't sedn the wall I might watch it. Also Comfortably Numb is my favorite Pink Floyd song.

Yep fully aware of Tommy and Quad adaptations. I am also aware that the who was long past their point of relevance by 1980, Pink Floyd pushed on for another decade and a half even releasing what are arguably some of their greatest tracks. The who films amount to superfluous pop/rock fluff of the heavily drug induced 70s. I really do not consider them even in the same league. Its like comparing Shakespears Julius Ceasar and Howard's Conan the Barbarian as examples of literary exposition.

So my apologies. I dont even view the two in any way shape or form on the same level because comparing them is literally like comparing apples and oranges.

EDIT:

No, I think thats very astute observations and I pretty much agree with your comparisons of DSoTM & the wall

Also.. Unbelievably jelly. Seriously, I would have loved to see them live just one time. Unfortunately I was born a little too late to have had a proper chance.

EDIT2: Also, to actually add to the thread, I would offer up what ended up being the unintentional concept album Nirvanas Unplugged: Live in New York. While I doubt it was intended to be a concept album one is hard pressed in light of the events that preceded it to not see the concept present.

Just incase you don't know what Dark Side of The Moon is I'll tell you. It's a concept album by Pink Floyd and is supposed to be the greatest album of all time, but frankly I think that The Who's Quadrophenia is the best album of all time.
What I want to know is which album from your favourite genre is the best one in the genre.

Well my favourite genre is Alternative Rock and I think the best album is Doolittle by The Pixies.

What is the best album from your favourite genre?
Ahh, a fellow pixies fan. I'd have to say, as much as I love Doolittle, I think Trompe le Monde tops it.

Um Mathcore/Progressive Metal- Colors by Between the Buried and Me.

It is it's own genre, and the album that I want all other albums to be. I will forever search for more albums that sound like that.
Yes! I went through a period where all I would listen to was metalcore and mathcore, and out off all of the albums I would listen to Colors is the only one I still return to. BTBAM is such a great band.

I would say "The Devil and God are Raging Inside Me" by Brand New is the best album of what ever genre that album is. I am confused because I have heard it called indie, emo, post hardcore, too many labels to count. So I just call it my favorite album of all time.

Toys in the attic, and truly gone fishing.

OT: I'd have to say The Wall, but only because I don't really listen to albums as a whole. I own albums, I've just never really just sat and listened to them from go to whoa. They're always shuffled up.

I don't really have a favorite genre. I really do like a wide range of music.

However, I can think of one album that epitomizes the best of what electric music, blended with other acoustic genres, can produce.

The album? Today. The artist? Tom Holkenborg. a.k.a Junkie XL.

There is not a single bad song on the entire album. Each track feels like it's from a different genre and each track is brilliant. The songs are a mix of genres from electronica, progressive house, acoustic rock, chill-out, break-beats, and others.

Honestly, it's still his best album and still one of my favorites.

The albums I listen to over and over again from start to finish all the time are:

Dark Side of the Moon - Pink Floyd
Scenes from a Memory - Dream Theater
Rage Against the Machine
Hold Your Colour - Pendulum
Powerslave - Iron Maiden
Ruin Johnny's Bar Mitzvah - Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies
...And Justice For All - Metallica
Love is the New Hate - Shihad
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West

Any of these, though I realise that Justice and Powerslave are probably competing for the heavy metal title. Shihad is there as a NZ album. Dark Twisted Fantasy is there because it was the best hip hop album in a long time (possibly ever).

If you haven't heard Ruin Johnny's Bar Mitzvah I recommend it very much, very funny, very fast, very punky.

It's impossible to have a 'Favourite' anything...

However, a couple of my Tops that I'm listening to at the moment is probably Daisies of the Galaxy and Electro-Shock Blues by Eels.

Interstellar 55555 by Daft Punk, released as a movie, with the only sounds being music. It is the Dark Side of the Moon of the Movie genre.

Swedish prog/experimental metal: "Sol Niger Within" by Fredrick Thordendal's Special Defects. Listen to it, then try and guess what year it was released. Chances are you'll be wrong. So complex, varied, textured, and skillfully executed, it's like it was sent back from the future.

"In the Court of the Crimson King" by King Crimson would be a good fit. As far as Pink Floyd is concerned I much prefer "Wish You Were Here" to the Dark Side of the Moon album, but it's close. Saw the latter in concert (with Roger Waters). But on the other hand, I might say Porcupine Tree with "In Absentia".

Picking one album, artist or even genre is pretty hard, but I stand by my choice as far as King Crimson is concerned.
