I agree with you for the most part.

However, I'd also like to raise objection to the extremely STUPID threads that surface on these forums:

" what is your superpower!" - They don't exist, shut up about them already. no matter how much you wish, you aren't going to EVER get that power, or any power.

"if you could date anyone!"- normal responses sometimes, usually a celebrity, but alot of the responses are FICTIONAL characters (and some of them aren't even goddamn human). Please stop doing this. It's fucking creepy. These fictional characters will NEVER EVER exist, so why waste your time thinking about?

"What would you do if you ruled____?" This is similar to that superpower thing, in that it will never happen. I don't understand why people have this need to tell OTHER people about their fantastical designs for the world under their rule. That's a thought that occurs to you when you are bored, and then you shrug it off and return to reality. You don't dwell on it, that's just childish.
With that logic why waste your time with video games? Those aren't real. Some people find it fun to post about fantasies and all you have to do is not read them.

So...you made a thread to talk about how negativity is bad...the irony is not lost on me.

Anyway, people talk about negative things for many reasons, honestly it eventually boils down to a fundamental part of the human philosiphy, and I'm not going there. Bassically, it happens, it will happen, you can't do anything but accept it...or futily try to change it.

(Was that negative?Yes.Do I care?No.)

Meh. These forums ain't great. They seem to be gradually degenerating in quality anyway, so you might as well just enjoy the downhill ride.
You are correct.
I hate to be "that guy," but even though I've only been here a short time, I have noticed a steady decrease in quality ever since I got here.
Quite similar here. I can't really talk, because like yourself, I haven't been here all that long, but things do seem to be going on the train to ground level. Before, it was about 1 troll per 1000 members. It's probably tripled since then.

You know...I'm starting to agree with that.

I wouldn't say the forum is declining in quality. It's just getting bigger. And when a forum gets bigger, people bring new things to it. Though these things can be good or bad.

After you get to a certain point, it really is quite hard to come up with new and interesting material to turn into a thread.

There just isn't that much to talk about anymore; everything's been done.

its not the decrease in quality, its your palate becoming more accustomed to such a sour taste, I've been here as long as you and the quality has stayed fairly constant from when I was lurking.

The only thing that changes is the users, not the content, the content always stays the same... merely our own ability to stomach such stupidity because at first you are part of the "newbies", and then you become a "veteran" of the forum... as such you feel the need to shout about "how it was better in the old days" (even though the old days are like 4 months ago)
You become more of an elitist with each passing day, striving for a better forum, but only sounding like an elitist prick each time you utter the same phrase that has been uttered forever on forums "it was better back in the day"

It'll happen to whatever forum you visit, what about World of WarHammer thing people play?, the level 80 shamans all bang the same drum, "stupid newbies are ruining it for us".

Same shit, different bucket my friend.

anyway on topic;
super happy thread!

Hey, look at it this way. Without negativity you couldn't have positivity. Woah, deep shit man.

To be honest I have noticed no decrease in quality. Every forum I have been on, people have claimed to witness a drop in quality.. I almost think people just wish the quality dropped so they could talk about their 'good old days'.

There is no such thing as quality drop. We all have the ability to create new threads, so if we don't believe that there are enough interesting topics out there we can just create them.

Waiting and grumbling while you hope someone makes a topic you want to talk about is a waste of your time. Just pick something you want to discuss and make it a thread.

I don't like negative apocalypse threads but I just don't read them. So it is of no concern.

As Gandhi said: Be the change you want to see in the world.

What's the point? The apocalypse is tomorrow so it seems like a waste of time to debate such trivial matters.

three cheers for this guy!

OT i tend to find the pessimistic threads tend to be more amusing and original than the "Mega cheery funtime" malarky

There is little one person can do about negative forums but you could
>ignore the forums
>create a small forum, like "what was the best thing about your day" or something else upbeat
>do a search on forums on one you want to see
Sometimes you just have to look through the threads and block out whenever you see "apocalypse" or 2012

I think this really needs to be discussed more. So many threads, even ones I'm seeing now, I don't know how they slip past the radar. How can we justify so many list threads? So many threads about "What is your favorite band?", "What is your eye color?", these threads provide no discussion at all, why not just lock them? Unless you can tell me why this information would matter to a ton of other people you are more than likely never going to meet.

I would like to see a scenario where we could vote to get this stuff out of our forums, where we could make "no list threads" one of our guidelines, because it is becoming more and more prevalent over the last month. Now, I know things come and go in waves, but we have the power to make this forum an incredible place to be, if we can just harness all users together and get them on the same page. Report shitty threads, trolls, and everything that shouldn't be here. Is anyone else with me?

Dispensing flowers, kittens, puppies and so forth to unhappy, excessively self-righteous, angry or emo-sounding posters might improve the general mood.

The alternative is to keep designing really interesting positive posts (which have no chance of starting a flame war) to distract people from the really negative ones.

Good luck with that.
