The Sims. Why do people actually enjoy controlling the everyday, boring lives of virtual characters in order to escape their real everyday, boring lives?

I can't stand the Witcher series, I went in to the first one thinking I would like it and was half asleep after about 20 minutes. Then someone told me it was the second one that was really good, but I can't stand the combat and I just can't get myself to care about the characters or the lore.

Baldur's Gate. To be fair, I probably had my expectation set too high, since I'd heard that this series was the spiritual predecessor to Dragon Age: Origins, which I loved.

The story and characters were interesting enough, but I can't stand the combat. Maybe it's because I didn't grow up with tabletop gaming, but I'm not a big fan of D&D combat in most cases. I also think the game looks ugly. To be clear, I'm not saying that I mind low graphical fidelity, it's just that I find the game just generally undesirable to look at.

I might give Baldur's Gate 2 a try some day, since I've heard that it's better than the first in just about every way, but it's still pretty far down the to-do list.

Assassins Creed
Legend of Zelda post-Wind Waker
Halo series
Half Life 2
Team Fortress
League of Legends

That's it, and even then hate is too strong a word.

No such game for me. However, there a couple I wish weren't as popular.

Starcraft 2 for it's poor dialogue, lame cliche' heroic story and that each of the races campaigns have to all be bought separately. Including everything else is pretty average, this game hasn't done anything unique, it's just shiny.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl because of it's terrible terrible game play. Fucking oath! Not only do they cut out a lot of strategic maneuvers but they nerf some of the characters to hell and back, the supers are so unbalanced that no one can pretend, and the damned random tripping. Another perfect example of shiny shit over quality.

For me, it's Bioshock Infinite.
You?
At least give a little explanation why. Otherwise your post is boring and I think it's against the rules here too.

Sorry to be a bore, but do we really need this thread again?
If there is enough people that wants to reply to these threads. Are you one of 'those' people that like to complain about negativity?

The Walking Dead, DoTA 2, Final Fantasy X.

Walking Dead is boring. Nuff said.

DoTA makes me want to kill my self.

Final Fantasy X is really hard and has a story that is really hard to follow.

Didn't stop me from pre-ordering the Remaster!

The Witcher. It's close to completely unplayable. It has the most unintuitive interface, boring/infurating combat, and damn near useless magic.

I don't care how good the story of a game is, if I can't have fun playing it because it's that poorly designed, what's the point?

God Of War, I hated that game not for the controls, not for the visuals, but for the main character. Hear me out here, Kratos to me was the most unlikeable, soulless character i have ever had the misfortune of playing. From my experience in the game he had no redeeming qualities, he was just rage stupid the entire time which did not make for a good experience. I did not want this man to win, i did not want him to continue his journey and yet for some unknown reason that game series is more popular than sin. I really do not understand how anyone can stand playing that game series, needing to play Kratos, for any length of time, it boggles my mind.
See, in an odd ball sort of way, this is kind of what I LIKED about the GOW series. So many games out there where you can supposedly play as a "bad" character either A: make it a moral choice system (so you can be good or bad) or B: Let you be a bad character, but do the whole thing in a tongue-in-cheek way (Overlord, Dungeon Keeper, etc.). GOW was one of the few games out there where you played a character who was a completely terrible, unlikeable person and the game just embraced that fact and ran with it.

Now i can understand that but there is a difference to me between being an evil, well written character and being... well unworthy of the goals you are perusing. It might just be my own personal morality boiling over into the game but playing Kratos just rubbed me wrong.

Minecraft.
After all the hype about it, I tried playing it. I put in about half an hour, which I think was a more than reasonable length of time, and was utterly bored with it.
I get that some people, who seem to have way too much time on their hands in my opinion, have made some pretty cool structures on it, but I'm pretty sure that after my half hour of it, it was starting to sap my will to live.
Ahhh yes, following the hype and a number of friends playing it, I tried it. Couldn't find anything to like after an hour or two and just decided to never touch it again :)

The Walking Dead.
The story was just an average zombie apoc story.
The mandatory choose one or the other to die when there is a way to save both really annoyed me. I think I got to the end of chapter one and then wished I hadnt wasted my money on the humble bundle I brought to get it.

And whilst Clementine may have been a good character is still didnt want to save her because I am a monster.

Dead Island.
I dont even know where the gameplay is in here. All i saw was smack zombies with a QTE if you happen to get hit so you dont die. Oh and run around a lot.
Its like they thought having a nice looking game in a tropical setting would stop people noticing it wasnt fun to play.

Saints Row 3 bored me to tears, really didn't get the love for all the goofy stuff. I mean hitting someone with a dildo is funny the first few times but it dulled quick and the world is just so shallow and static. Hopefully 4 will fix it but from what I've seen I doubt it.

FFVII

People view this game through rose colored nostalgia glasses, and I've been constantly told that I should play it because it's amazing. I've seen advent children, and played crisis core, so honestly I just expected it to be a lower poly version of crisis core. I had not, however, ever actually seen the game played, so I had no idea what to expect.

When I bought in during the summer sale on steam, was surprised with what I got.

As soon as cloud stepped off the train I knew this wasn't what I had expected. The polycount was abysmally low, probably one of the lowest I've ever seen in a game that attempted poly graphics. The fixed cameras were really annoying, because while once again it was really the best they could do at the time it was just really annoying. The backgrounds WERE really well done, I have to admit that.

The graphics were not timeless, like some people believe. They were old, and frankly kinda wretched. The style was good, but the limitations imposed by the technology of the time mean compared to most modern games (and in fact earlier FF games) it just wasn't able to really shine through.

However what really ruined it for me was not how old it was, or it's graphics, but the battle system. I HATE the fucking Action Time Bar.

I understand that it was added in in order to make battles a little more stressful (with players not having unlimited time to think up their next move) and to introduce a new layer of strategy (in the different recharges rates of the bar based on what move was used and the speed stats). However it failed on both those counts for me.

I normally know what move I want to use next before I even finish inputting my current move, and even if situations change after my move is executed I still normally have a new plan before the animations are even finished. This means that most of my time in FFVII was just spent staring at the screen in frustration waiting for my ATB to recharge. If I could input moves to execute as soon as the bar recharged that would make it a little better, but I still have an issue with how there are many times in battle where literally nothing is happening because both sides are waiting for their ATBs to recharge. I like old fashioned turn based RPGs because they provide downtime when I need it since I can just walk away from the game and nothing will happen until I tell it to, but also because all that downtime is under my control. The ATB system take both those things away from me.

I'm not even going to start on the random monster encounters. I think every game that has those (yes, even pokemon) would be better if you could see the monsters. Heck, you don't even have to be able to see exactly what kind of monster it is, just that there's a monster there.

Now that all my rage is out of the way, I still love FFVII's story, but until they at least release and HD remake (and no the mod that's out there doesn't cut it for me) I'm gonna stay away from it.
