Not necessarily Halo movie, but a movie set in the Halo universe. Don't have it follow the story of the game, just make a war movie. I mean, sure an appearance by Master Chief would be pretty much obligatory, but don't make him the main character.

That was in the works, but it was dropped for some reason or another.

I'd have to say that a GTA IV movie would be fantastic.

Hmm. I thought that was just going to be a movie based on the first game.

Honestly, I don't think that movies based directly on a video game will ever work. Think about it. A good movie lasts 1-1.5 hours. If you keep audiences sitting around for more than 2 hours, people are going to get pissed off (or it had better be really, really good). A good videogame campaign needs to last 10 hours at least. If you make it any shorter than that, people are going to get pissed off (see Halo 3's campaign). So in order to get a videogame's plot to fit in a 1 to 2 hour time frame, you have to take a lot out. For the same reason, videogames based directly on movies will never work. In this case, it's because you have to add in so much to the plot that wasn't in the movie, that it often starts to get ridiculous (See Spider Man 2: The Game). The only exception I've ever seen is the Lord of the Rings games. I don't count the Star Wars games in this, because all of the good ones are essentially the videogame equivalent of the Halo movie I want to see made. A game based in the Star Wars universe, but not on any one movie.

a movie for the text adventure Zork
:)
maybe.
I'd really love to see a Team Fortress 2 movie as well as a COD4 one simply because Gaz and Captain Price are the two coolest characters i've ever come across in a game.
nonono
Deus Ex : The Movie
but only if it was mind-defyingly good, otherwise it wouldn't do the game justice.

Metal gear solid movie could work if it were based on the first metal gear solid game, or even the original metal gear games depicting snake first mission on outer heaven. I could certainly see the older metal gear games as working movies.

I still think Naked Snake aka Big Boss easily owns Solid Snake. A movie on Big Boss I say, damnit!

Mass Effect (if it's not done into a Star Wars clone)
Vampire: the Masquerade
Warhammer 40,000

And as a few people have already said:
Assassin's Creed
Bioshock

Also these would be pretty cool:

I would say one game that would make a great movie would be (get ready for this)

The Darkness

I figured as long as there was drama and a good back story, that would make it into a good movie as long as anyone, but Uwe Boll was directing it.

Thief, directed by Tim Burton with Johnny Depp as Garrett.

I think it would be something they could really pull off.
I would only wish to see these movies done if they would be done PROPERLY with the right amount of drama, action, storyline etc. and most definatley not by some cheap ass director like Uwe Boll, or if the movies in general were on a low budget.

Mass effect has a great story so does:
Bioshock
Assassin's Creed
Vampire: The Masquerade
Thief (well good enough to be made into a movie)
The Darkness

Seeing that the original "Mortal Kombat" is the only halfway decent game turned AMERICAN LIVE ACTION movie to date (I loved the Fatal Fury Animes)...I would have to say that I wouldn't want anything to go live action. People just have too many different impressions of the what, where how and who. I don't think that anything non-CGI would be able to make it for a suitable video game movie...which is why they did that for "Advent Children" and borrowed the voices from Kingdom Hearts.

I'd like to see a Japanese film studio make and import a movie version of Ninja Five-O. It would need to be a Japanese crew because Hollywood doesn't understand how to make a martial arts movie that isn't stupid. That was a great game which I still play sometimes on my DS. It could be made into a straight up, no nonsense ninja action movie with no magic nor weird monsters. It would be great if they got some guys who are actually masters of ninjitsu to play the parts of the hero and the ninjas that the bad guys have hired. I could see it being a cool "East meets West" kind of movie where the hero of the game is recruited by the police in the U.S. to defeat the ninjas and rescue the hostages. They could have Bruce Willis on the police force representing the Western style of trying to defeat the bad guys with guns and basic brawling but who find themsleves in over their heads when the bad guys unleash the ninjas on them. It's been a long time since we had a decent movie where a ninja is the hero so a Ninja Five-O movie would be cool. Maybe it would also inspire a remake of the game using today's graphics and game engines but keeping the unique gameplay elements of the old game (like swinging from the grappeling hook while throwing shuriken) intact.

Games that they should ABSOFUCKINGLUTELY NEVER make movies out of are fighting games. That shit is pathetic, man. Every one of them.
They're are so many fucking movies out there dedicated to fighting, there is really no need. Not to mention the vast majority of them are discount bin shit.
Actually they made a tekken movie, and it was pretty good.

Anyway, I reckon a Castlevania film, (oh looky http://castlevania.wikia.com/wiki/Castlevania_(film) ) or a film adaptation of the first Devil May Cry.

I reckon they could get about a million films out of WoW but I wouldn't watch any of them.

Also if it's true that Oddworld are now making films that'd be sweet.

Although im sure this thread is the 57th clone off of the production line here goes

in order of epicness

Bioshock (if this game isnt made into at least a sequel, it will fade into existence)
deus ex
Half life 2 (but only if we could be certain that it would be good)
american mcgee's alice (ok ok so they are making one, but it better actually happen)
warhammer 40K
Clue (note how you didnt specificly say "video game")

I don't want to see any more, period.

Books, yes. Comic books, sure, if it has a good writer and director. But video games are an interactive medium and trying to tell it as a movie, you lose half of the experience. Unless the game revolves around a great and deep story, what's the point? It's just going to be a spectacle and a lousy excuse for a bad action sequence.

Thought I'd sign up just to inform everybody. Bioshock is in the works with Gore Verbinski (The Ring, Pirates of the Carribean) directing. Only known details at this time is that it will be filmed entirely with green screen.

And The Darkness is also in production with the Pang brothers (The Grudge, Bangkok Dangerous) to direct.

Now to go on topic I'd like to see a Splinter Cell movie. The post 9/11 society is hot for political intrigue movies.

I'd say Bioshock but I don't think it'd get the treatment it deserves.
A Bioshock movie is said to be in progress. They have a good director so I think it'll be awesome.

I think a Zelda movie would be awesome, there was a really elaborate fake of a movie trailer for it and it looked really good! (except for the actors). Except they really should make it about Ocarina of Time.

I'm not sure about a Halo movie. It would get a lot of hate if it was made, but that might be cool.

I heard Max Payne was being made/has been made? That has all the makings of win, aslong as the director/cast doesn't blow.
