The fifth Harry Potter, how ever many pages that was. Those are the only actual huge books I read. Everything else doesn't require a hardback just to hold properly.

I agree, the stand is an incredible book. Its been released with all 4 books in one, and it ends up at a massive 1200 or so pages, but the longest book I've read is Stephen Kings "It", reaching an incredible 1376.

the longest I'm going to read will be Under the Dome. This is King's new book to be released on Nov 10 in England, and will be longer than It. Oh god.

(Page counts were taken from Hodder published paperbacks)

And yes, I agree with 2 posts above:
1. Its better than the Stand because it's more original.
2. And its better than the Stand because it has a shapeshifter that kills children.

I must say though, The Tommyknockers is my favourite King book, along side Cujo.
There's a new one coming out? Yay! I can't wait, it's pre-ordering time! The Tommyknockers was alright, but his other amazing books include - The Talisman (with Peter Straub), The Dark Tower series, From a Buick 8, Cell and Lisey's Story. They're my little list of favorites anyway.
Hated Cell, hated The talisman, never read lisey;s story of from a buick 8. Lol.

Would have to be:

The lonely winter

I think it was called that and it was a war book about 1500 pages, if found it must be read!

Are you perchance a Clive Barker fan?

I never got through either of those books. Lord knows I tried.

Hopscotch and House of Leaves are pretty long books, made to feel longer by the fact they're not really read in any particular order.

One Hundred Years of Solitude is also a good 800 pages, I'm nearing the end of that.

For fun Wheel of Time books with an average 800 pages

For school/university Atkins' physical chemistry at just under 1100 pages. by the end of this book I was banging my head on a table every 2 minutes to stop my brain from imploding from shear boredom

I'm not sure actually. I've read The Stand (and almost every other book by Stpehen King) and that could indeed have been the longest book I've ever read. If I really like a book however (and that certainly was the case with The Stand) I usually finish them within a few days.

The book that took me the longest to plow through has to be The Hidden Force by Louis Couperus. That was just awfull.

Most likely one of my wheel of time books, i think. but i might be mistaken, one of the Otherland novels may have won this one for me.
