I flip flop damn near daily between loving and hate Mass Effect. Today, after all this time, I've decided I don't like it. I'm sure I'll change my mind tomorrow though.

Ouch. Please accept my condolences, fellow troper.
If I actually wanted to put in the time to play it through, I would probably end up adding it to the Darth Wiki.

About 12 hours in Demon's Souls I just sat back and reflected on the gameplay, and realized that at least 70-80% of all the souls I had collected until then had been lost due to the dual death penalty (even though I did return to spend them as often as I could) and that 95% of the time I was running around as a ghost in half health. That's when I decided that this game was probably made by the antichrist and I should stop wasting my time with it immediately.

Agreed except it took me about 50+ hours and a lot of mods before realising how rubbish it was.

For me it was probably the new Wolfenstein, I absolutely love RTCW and of course Wolfie 3D.

So I buy the new one deciding to get it despite the average reviews and proceed to play to the very last level before trading it in for being a worthless piece of shit not worthy to carry the title Wolfenstein.

I seriously hated all that Veil shit.

Oblivion. I actually played that piece of garbage for about 10 hours before I realized that it was just terrible.
Gonna have to agree with Oblivion on this one, although my opinion of it isn't so terrible. It's just...I tried to like it, I really did. But, as one other poster pointed out, realizing that nothing was really dangerous because it all leveled with you just kind of killed the fun for me.

Topic inspired by this topic, and specifically a little rant I had, reposted here. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.160375#4058290

We've all had game we assured ourselves would get better... eventually. What was the longest it took you to realize that, indeed, the shit will stay shit, and nothing will improve? Games that you finished don't count; I'm curious about those abandoned midstream.

For me, I'd say Metal Saga. If you haven't heard of it, it was a PS2 RPG that billed itself as a post-apoclyptic JRPG... WITH TANKS! Unfortunately, it sucked. I kept telling myself, "THIS GAME HAS TANKS IN AN RPG. Surely it will stop being bad at some point." It didn't, but I pressed on, gritting my teeth and emulating Yahtzee's complaint style as I went along. Finally, 17 hours in, I couldn't take any more and tossed it aside. It still sits on my shelf, taunting me... "I'm a nonlinear RPG with tank combat. How can I possibly be bad? PLAY ME." NEVER AGAIN.

EDIT: This topic is search bar approved.
Wild Arms 3 is an RPG that lets you control a sand tank or a flying machine, if you're interested.
On Topic- For me, it was Oblivion. I started the game on PC. It started out okay, but I got bored and stopped playing after about 20 hours. Months later I bought it on ps3 and enjoyed it a little more.
About halfway through the game, I had to force myself to finish it. It was just becoming dull, boring and repetitive. The map system was attrocious, and the battle system was just horrible (I had JUST finished playing Dark Messiah which had a very fun, dynamic battle system).
The spellcasting and customization left much to be desired, and the plot (apart from the Knights of the Nine quest) was very so-so and uninspiring.

I forced myself to finish game, telling myself "It'll get better". Even when I had some of the best items in the game and more money than I knew what to do with... it didn't get any better.

I even finished all the guild quests as well as the main quests, and still didn't enjoy the game. So, it took me about 80 hours to realize I hated the game. I finished it, forcing myself because after 80 hours, I wasn't going to just give up.

I still to this day can not see why that flaming piece of shit got a 9.0 on gamespot or a shining review on any other videogame website.
P.S (Knights of the Nine quest was awesome).

Wow... I thought I was the only one who thought that game was just awful.
Unfortunately it took me near the end of the game before I realized how wrong everybody was about the game. "Best rpg of the decade"? Yeah... Fuck off please?

Megaman X7, I didn't actually want this game, I got it for christmas 2 years ago because my mom couldn't find Okami.
Anyways, I kept trying to convince myself that it was good but really the targetting, and controls were bad in the 2d sections and almost unbearable in the 3d sections, Also the acting is atrocious, the story is really lame and doesn't really go anywhere. and all the bosses take WAAY too much damage. The end boss is particularly guilty of this, He literally takes over an hour to beat! and thats if you can get to him! The final stage is like 4 hours long, hellishly hard, they make you fight all the previous bosses, you cant save in between, only die and respawn at the nearest checkpoint! I literally had to leave my playstation on all day to beat the shitty game!
and when I finally beat Sigma, all I got was some shitty ending that I can't even remember and I'm just sitting here like;
"well, that sucked."
Wow... That's a shame, the previous games were just awesome (I remember playing x6 like 4 times in a row). I've been trying to get hold of X7 for a while... maybe I should just let it go, yeah?

Soul Calibur IV: Fighting game! With swords! So like.. Duelling! Wait, no, swords are basically LONGER FISTS. AKA this game is just another reskinned . And I hate fighting games. Sadly I still own the collector's edition...

GTA IV: You can do anything! And it's so realistic compared to previous ones! Yay! Oh, wait. I have to call my arms dealer, meet him, dress up, drive back to my bloody house, save, and THEN go on the mission? And Roman's calling me to go bowling or what? Screw this. I quit sometime around the middle and sold that piece of overhyped garbage.

World of Warcraft took me to get to the level cap (80) after 3-4 years of off and on playing, from Vanilla WoW to WotLK. Now I realize the level cap is dreadfully boring and the world lacks character since it's just a parody of every other fantasy game. A good story a parody does not make.

Team Fortress 2 took me 10 minutes and Left 4 Dead took me about 4 hours or so, spread out among 4 days. Terrible, terrible excuses for FPS...

I tend to decide from the first three or five hours of play, since I play RPGs. Shadow Hearts From The New World took me around two hours to decide it was pretty lame, and a little longer to realise just how insulting it was to the franchise. Granted, I still played, but very grudgingly.

I hate CoD. I mean all of it. I've played most of the games and loathed them after about... oh, 20 minutes. Oh, and Mass Effect.

I played 20 missions of Endwar before I realised I wasn't really enjoying myself.

On the other hand some games that are hated by most I've enjoyed. Splatterhouse 2, Too Human and Baroque instantly spring to mind.

Oblivion.

Half an hour in I was just too bored to go on. Later on decided to give it another go, still didn't work. Now it's just taking up shelf space.

Worms. I liked it when I was a kid but now, 14 years later, I'm not certain it was all that.

4.5 Minutes

If the game is not fun in the first 5 minutes...It probably won't be fun hours from now.
