What's the most depressing Movie/T.V. show (entire series or episode) video game, book etc. have you seen/played/read?
Despite them being comedies 'Mrs. Doubtfire' and 'The Sixth Man' rank pretty high on my list of very depressing movies. Elfen Lied is the most depressing anime I've seen. And for books, 'Where the Red Fern Grows' takes the cake.

Lilya 4 Ever is the most depressing movie I've ever seen.

Dancer In The Dark a close second.

Schindler's List and Grave of the Firefly tops it for me. Both movies made me feel like I'd been punched in the face after watching them.

Movie - Can't think of one off the top of my head, but I recently saw 'Blindness' and that was pretty depressing.

T.V. show - Again, can't really say off the top of my head.

Anime - Yeah, I'll go with Elfen Lied.

Book - Hop on Pop. jk jk, I don't read books very often, and when I do they're never of a depressing nature.

Maybe not the whole movie, but the end of The Mist was pretty damn depressing.

Maybe End of Evangelion.
The ending itself is relatively happy seeing as how
Everyone can come back from Primordial Soup if they want to, and the children are no longer constrained by the agenda of Nerv and SEELE.
But, the movie itself is filled with depressing and genuine saddening moments. :l

OT: Ben's Funeral episode of Scrubs depresses the hell out of me.

This don't really count as a movie but I once saw a WWII documentary where I usually barley
lift an eyebrow when they talk about "waa waa the germans killed everybody sadface:(" because
I'm getting a little fed up whit this(I call it grief gluttony) but then I saw the surname of
the guy that was telling about his family getting gunned down by the SS.

It was the same as mine and I know my family lived in Germany during that time.
So yeah I think that is the most depressing thing I have ever seen and will ever see :(.

Mines surprisingly Fallout 3.

Seeing the shed in Andale just made me realise that the Wasteland was ruined and all hope at civilisation was going to be doomed, So i then decided to take my until then neutral/evil character down the path of good in order to redeem the wasteland, Until a raider killed my dog and i went apeshit on all raiders making it my goal to dismember them and scatter their body parts.

Requiem for a Dream. The first ten minutes revolve around Jared Leto stealing his mum's television to pay for drugs. And that's the happiest part of the film. It's a fantastically directed movie, and the actors all do an awesome job, but goddamn, I refuse to ever watch it again.
Agreed. This was my favourite film for a long time, but God is it depressing. I love the style of it, the way it's shot and edited.

I think House of Sand and Fog beats it for depression-value, however. My God, it's horrible. Very good though, and it stars the fantastic Ben Kingsley which always adds plus-points in my book (with the exception of the rather dreadful Shutter Island).

Edit: Oh, and I dare any of you to watch the horrific Holocaust documentary Nuit et Brouillard (Night and Fog). It's only half an hour long but I cannot recall seeing many things as awful as that film.

lovley bones. I hate my girl...
Do you mean the book or the film? I have not seen the film but the book is the saddest I have ever read. Perhaps it is only because I have lots of young siblings so I couldn't help imagining something similar happening to them, but it's an incredibly harrowing tale.

Just off the top of my head here. Probably not absolute, but I don't want to think about it too hard.

Anime - Air. Seriously, this is possibly the saddest thing I have watched in my entire life. Elfen Lied was depressing, yes, but Air is... well...

Movie - As much as I hated the movie, Swing Kids goes here.

TV Show - Wouldn't know; I don't watch TV

Game - KotOR II, for numerous reasons (not all of which relate to the plot)

Book - I'm currently reading A Song of Ice and Fire, and goddamn, does anything good happen to any of the characters in these books?

One of the saddest movies i've seen off the top of my head would be Saving Private Ryan. Especially the scene of where the medic is bleeding out about to die...so sad.

Film called Control, it's about the lead singer from Joy Division, Ian Curtis' life. So depressing but very, very good.
