The railgun in Red faction 2. The most dificult gun to use ever, even if it could shot through walls. Plus it sounded crap.

The Spartan Laser. After the big fuss that got made about it, i was expecting something that could take out two wraith in one shot. Instead i got a gun with only 5 shots, that took two shots to kill any vehicle except a ghost.
This, I was so let down when I first got it in the campaign, sure it's powerful but it takes five seconds to charge the damn thing up by which time someone's already shot you.

probably the ripper. you would think a hand held chain-saw would do more damage

Pretty much every weapon in Fallout 3 Other than the shishkabob, Fat man, and Laser Gatling.

Plasma rifle - I expected a Doom type killing machine and I got was a clunky chunk of scrap metal that shot farts of shamrock at a sadly slow rate of fire. At least it could turn players to goo on occasion.

Sniper Rifle - Even with my repair skill at 100, the commando perk, and using V.A.T.s I could never get this thing to shoot any more accurately than the hunting rifle, in fact the hunting rifle was more accurate, deteriorated slower, and had more critical hits.

Missile launcher - Grossly under powered, I found I needed 2 rockets to kill 1 human enemy sometimes.

Gonna have to go with Simriel on the Halo 3 Spartan Laser. Not only did it have the worst ammo clip of any weapon ever invented (5 rounds, non-reloadable), but it was impossible to aim. with the twenty minute warm-up period before you could actually fire the damn thing the only enemies which would actually stand still long enough to hit were the big fatass ones that took you half the ammo to kill anyway.

I just gave it to a marine on the back of a mongoose. They seemed to be blessed with godlike accuracy and an invisible giant AAA battery strapped to their back.
A giant AAA battery, isn't that an oxymoron?

Anyway, mine would have to be any of Nightmare's swords. Any sword that looks like it weighs 10 metric tons and doesn't slice through a little girl wearing naught but tights seems like a disappointment to me.

The psychosis gun from Perfect Dark Zero. Never used it in multiplayer, but it's downright useless in campaign, because the AI will inevitably know exactly where you are and still shoot you, even if they're pumped full of drugs. The AI is also brutal when using it against you.

Yeah, I'd definitely have to go with all of the 'Build-It-Yourself' weapons from Fallout 3. Most of them are bad, impracticable, or just slightly stronger versions of previous weapons. Sure, you can spend all your caps making over a hundred Bottle Cap Mines with enough power to launch a Super Mutant Behemoth weightlessly into the air, but it's disappointing to see the other weapons. I mean seriously, the Dart Gun?

the ultima sword from final fantasy 7, it was just sligthly better than ragnorok or heavens cloud, it had no materia growth, and if you ever found yourself with realy low hp, you gould just as well use the buster sword (its power declined when your health droped), and it was just a pain in the ass to get, you had to run after ultima weapon for about an hour or more

this was a reocuring problem with a lot of the ultimate weapons for the diferent characters, for instance Barret's last gun, "missing score" was a piece of shit untill you killed over 100 enemies.

The BFG10K from Quake 3 Arena. It's still a good gun, but after hearing the stories of the BFG9000, I was expecting something a little more...biblical.

edit: Oh yeah, and several of the weapons from Fallout 3. Railway rifle, sniper rifle, and missile launcher, I'm looking at you!

The shotgun in the first Quake. After the awesomeness of Doom's shotgun, I cried.

the dart gun is brilliant against mirelurks or anything else that need to run at you, deathclaws ect

my biggest let down was the FatMan yes launching nukes is fun i just wish the blast was bigger, more louder... the experimental MRV though, thats a weapon

all of the 2-handed weapons in The Darkness. Only the pistols and you darkness powers were needed thoughout the entire game. Besides, the pistols had the most and best looking executions where as the shotgun had just "smash guy in forehead and pull trigger" and the assult rifles didn't have any at all

Most of the weapons in Halo (That assault rifle in the first one was ridiculously inaccurate), the shotgun in Doom 3 (It wasn't a gun, it was the Impact Hammer from Unreal Tournament), getting a normal gravity gun back in Episodes 1 / 2 of Half-Life 2 after having the Super Gravity Gun at the end of the game...

Come oooon, the railway rifle is amazing! I realised that after seeing a wall full of Talon merc heads pinned against it ;-)

The pistol in Halo 2. I expected the one from the first Halo, which kicks butt, but I instead I got this little piece of crap that isn't good for anything.

I don't know if this counts but in Red Alert 3 there are Dolphins with lasers on their heads and I expected them to be amazing but I was sorely dissapointed by their low health, they can't take more than one or two machine gun rounds.

Most of the gun sounds form Cod 5 were pretty bad, i know there old guns but they could still sound beasty. All the sniper rifles from stalker, a normal rifle with a scope did a better job since you needed headshots anyway and there is aroound 12 sniper bullets in the entire game, unless you spend a fortune buying them.

The Matilda in RE4. "A machine-pistol?! Awesome! *clickclickclickclick*... Damn.". Also the TMP, from the same game... Only machine gun you can get on a first run through, and it's absolutely dire.

Offtopic: the first time I used the shotgun in RE4 I almost cried because of how brutal it looked to decapitate a villager climbing through a window towards me.

I didn't like the sniper rifle in Killzone 2. It took forever to line up shots and it didn't zoom that far. It was a spectacular letdown after the sniper rifle in Resistance. I haven't tried it online yet, maybe it is better there.
Really?
I prefer Killzone 2 sniper to Resistance 2's.
I just love the fact that the Sixaxis actually affects your aiming to the point where steady hands make good sniping.

The Killzone 2 flamethrower however...its the weapon equivalent of erectile disfunction. The fire just kinds of drops onto the floor.
