I listen to indie music, and don't comb my hair. That said, I only listen to the good indie music, and am lazy, so it's less hipster, more lazy person with random taste in music.

The most hipster thing I can recall doing would have to be...er...does liking mildly obscure series and old games count?

In which case my love of games like Diablo II, Splatterhouse and Alien Trilogy (among many others) would probably be my hipster crimes against humanity then.

EDIT: I also regularly wear super hero T-shirts and can quote the majority of Aliens perfectly.

Ever just hang out in a coffee shop for no reason? Looked at myself sitting there and wondering why I was doing it. Everyone around me was super skinny with laptops. Can remember wanting to just bother some of the people in there for the hell of it. The simple fact remains that I usually feel comfortable around hipsters. Always the hipster test you can take to see how extreme you are.

question 1- Do you self roll your own cigs.

question 2- Do you like Pabst, or Miller Genuine Draft

question 3- Do you shop at thrift stores

question 4- Do you carry around an old book for no reason

question 5- Do you like bringing up bands that nobody has heard of
This describes me. I'm old not a hipster. I liked how earlier someone said they likes retro-games. They are not retro to me!

I'm one of those guys at school who has older siblings that I am close to and have shared music with me... So you can probably guess what happens when people start getting into my music...

Yeah... I sorta hate how I'm like that though... But just because I liked the Mars Volta before everyone else does not make me nor them hipster! (someone said that... and I was slightly annoyed... If I wasn't trying to not be a hipster...)

Let's see, when I was 14 I started listening to grunge (and not just Nirvana, I'm talking about U-Men, Malfunkshun, Filter along with others here), wear flannel shirts and just avoiding every trend of the 2000's. I didn't like punk, metal or any other kind of rock post 1994, I loathed (well, I still loathe) merengue, salsa, vallenato and the emerging reggeaton genre. I started reading more adult oriented books, and stuff from other countries other than mine, began writing stuff on my notebooks, grabbed a guitar and played grunge all day every day. So basically I was completly different than every person who attended my high school, and just about every person in my circle of friends. Of course everybody just sorts of finds his self later on, and the same friend who thought The Matrix Reloaded was a master piece now indulges himself in Alejandro Jodorowski's films.

So my teen years were the most hipsters years of my life, I still have some hipster moments from time to time, like playing retro games (Or games that I couldn't play because my pc couldn't handle them and I just forgot about them, but now I remember them and I can play then with no problems at all) or listening to other kinds of music, like Mike Oldfield as of late.

I bought a single speed bike... It's even a Surly... The only way I could face myself in the mirror was to vow never to make it a fixie, and always have TWO brakes on it. I still look at it sometimes and have to double check my hipster factor...

Wore a fedora whilst listening to obscure Finnish metal
Hey... Fedora's look cool, hipsters stopped wearing those already.

And Finnish Metal is metal. It's not hipster till it becomes popular and you stop listening to it because you heard it on a radio station(not counting college stations).

A hipster is, generally, a negative way to describe someone who exhibits certain irritating tendencies. You might recognize them as being in the late teens early twenties and always talk about how much things suck, these days and stuff was only good when it was "pure" back in the day. And anything more than 10 people have heard of, or more than 5 people like has "sold out". Video games, comics, music, etc... Generally these people tend to be annoying and look down at others who are "sheep" or "followers"

They have recently discovered this thing called "irony" so expect smart alec comments, and snide remarks.

Other things to watch out for so you can keep an eye out for them:

Sitting in the dark coffee shop drinking black coffee, but not enjoying it. They'll probably have a pack of cigarettes on the table, despite the fact that they can't smoke inside, but they need to let you know that they smoke. They don't care that it's not good for their health, they don't follow your rules.

They're too young to know any better, but they'll keep talking about old things and how it's so much better than things these days.

Semi goth type attire, esp Misfits t-shirts. They'll also be focused on out dated cool clothing. So they only shop at thrift stores, not because it's cheaper, but because it's old.

Gotta go, feel free to add or adjust.

The most hipsterish thing is that...... anything that the majority of everyone proclaims is the most amazing best ever!!!!... I tend to avoid. Now if something I likes gets noticed, I'm happy (ie the fallout series), but if everyone liked it from the get-go, I'm not into it and if the fan base is particularly incessantly vocal, then I become very annoyed and antagonistic toward the source material. -_- Here is an example: I dislike Harry Potter. I don't find it to be very deep compared to some fantasy tales I love. Normally, I would pay it no mind but having it always rubbed in my face and treated as odd for not liking it has made me pretty hostile toward that series. Twilight would be same case, but I dislike it for its misogynistic nature.

Here are a bunch more stuff, but might be more due to quirky bookworm/indie music girl than hipster.

I listen to a lot of fairly obscure indie music and actively seek it out. I do love to share it with others and hopefully get them into it. ^^ A few of my friends always ask me for recommendations, because I have such an eclectic mix. I just can't get into mainstream music as I feel its not deep or quirky enough, yet I do hope success for bands that I love such as Regina Spektor who did get some broader recognition.

Not sure if this counts, but I quit watching TV, because of my great dislike for the onslaught of commercials and advertising. I do watch some shows on DVD, but I'm more of a music person.

I hate clothes with logos especially ones advertising something. My style (and personality) is bookwormish anachronistic private school nerd girl and I try to choose clothes to fit that image in my head. I want to wear a scarf more often and I like some of the girl hipster fashion that has that bookish look to it.

I love reading classics by Camus and Foucault.

Nothing. Genuinely dislike/like things i dislike and like for my reasons. My reasons don't even need to make more sense than "it fucking annoys my balls off". Hipster implies you do it to be contrary, different and frankly a nonconformist in your mind. Well...that's too much effort. My irrational hate of things will be backed with a shrug and an admittance of irrationality!

what, captcha. Just what.

I say that I liked COD before it went mainstream and that NMH is one of the best games ever. And that NMH is the artist to Airplane Over The Sea.
Oh my god I love you.

But if you were a *real* hipster you'd say it was the artist who did On Avery Island. Everyone listens to Aeroplane now. ;)

I'm into bad/obscure films and underground music and rage at anyone who says "indie" like it's a genre. I wear a lot of floral print dresses and plaid and deny with great passion that I'm a hipster when anyone calls me one.
