I was into macarons before they were sold everywhere. Also, I listen to the Decemberists and Deerhoof.

In a job interview, the girl interviewing me asked who my favourite band were. Without thinking, I responded with "Eh, you've probably never heard of them..." To be fair, she hadn't, and I knew she wouldn't have, but that didn't make it sound any less hipster-dick-ish!

By the way, the band was Porcupine Tree.

I've been to art walks that have free cheap import beer and terrible modern art. Of course I was going to it BEFORE it became famous.

Refusing to get Facebook, even when the heads of my History and Geography departments at school thought it would be great to put all the GCSE holiday revision stuff on a Facebook page, as opposed to doing a handout, like they'd done in previous years.

question 1- Do you self roll your own cigs.
How is this hipster? It's cheaper, and sometimes you want more than just a cigarette.
Exactly. It pisses me off when people go "lol! Old fashioned! He's such a hipster!"

My dad has rolled his own cigarettes for years, and though I'd never smoke, that's what I'd do. Beyond the PS1, the first few years of my life were spent in a very time delayed household and it's left its mark on me.

So a couple of days ago me and my little brother were talking and I caught myself saying "I liked him before he was famous." And I almost had to slap myself for how hipster I sounded. But then I got to thinking about it and I realize I'm actually quite the hipster: I wear flannel shirts, buy indie games, listen to underground music, and enjoy retro things.

So my fellow escapists, what's the most hipster thing you've done/are doing?
Buying indie games is a hipster trait now? I know indie everything else is hipsterish, but saying buying indie games is a hipster trait is like saying you're a hipster if you buy those public domain DVDs Walmart sells for a dollar -- well, at least as long as you mainly go for the fun ones. Some of the arty ones are so pretentious it hurts.

OT: It's not traditionally a hipster trait (they drink PBR), but I'm a bit of a beer snob. Most of the stuff I drink is microbrewed by companies you've probably never heard of. We're the hipsters of alcohol enthusiasts.

Edit: Oh, I also have a large vinyl collection, but it's because my dad gave me his old records, and I love classic rock and old metal. You can pick up an entire album for the cost of a single song on iTunes, and it's almost guaranteed not to have that post-90's brick wall compression on it, plus vinyl keeps the overtones on harmonies (and guitar distortion) that lossy file formats like mp3s drop. I can't comment on whether it's better than CD or not (it's questionable, especially since my equipment is low end) but it's definitely better than .mp3.
