If it's only D&D, that counts, but I'm thinking games that you usually couldn't find on the shelves of a mainstream bookstore, so anything by WotC, White Wolf, Steve Jackson Games and the like wouldn't count.

For me, Sweet Dreams. It's a high school centred game where you have a variety of supernatural (or mundane) creatures to choose from, almost Class of the Titans meets WoD.

Between There and There.
Country
The Wide, Brown One.
Hmmm...

Probably the Humidity setting for d4-d4.

It's wayyyy more indie than Risus or Pokethulhu by virtue of d4-d4's creator being less known than theirs.

If this thread were a competition, I would win on this alone. My gaming group The Ogres (TM) [http://quiltcityogres.com/] has playtest credits on this.

However, if I indeed wanted to one up myself...

This is a game that we Ogres have created and are publishing through Hex games. It's basically Hogwarts meets Varsity Blues (as shown in the picture).

I've only played two tabletop roleplaying games: DnD, and Dark Heresy. So I guess Dark Heresy.

Probably Burning Wheel. It had a lot of good ideas; notably, the core rulebooks are paperbacks without any illustrations artificially driving up the price. In terms of actual gameplay, however, it's way to rule-heavy and complicated.

Yeah, the scale always goes much further than you'd first expect. I used to think BESM was rules light and flexible. Heh. If you've only played a couple games, the most indie one might not be indie at all.

Carcosa, techinically it's just a rules hack for ODnD (which is pretty indie on it's own) but I think it counts.

Car Wars?? Its been so long, but that was a world that my friend would toss out every once in awhile for us to play.

There is another old ass game too that he would have us play, but I cant think of it.. im going back 20+ years with these thoughts.

the most indie games ever are the ones people make themselves, and as my friend is constantly making his own tabletops, I'd say his tabletops are the most indie games I've ever played

I've played Tome. It was written by a friend of mine, and we took part in play-testing it before it was published. Only a local publication, distributed via con booths etc. so very, VERY few people have ever heard of it.

Call of Cthulu I suppose. Or some game called Cult, I think. I forget. Nothing really felt as simple yet flexible as AD&D 2nd Ed.

That would be Kult, and yeah, that'd be more indie than CoC.

Not sure if you could call it indie or not, but my friends and I used to play the Star Wars RPG - not the d20 Wizards of the Coast one, but the original one made by West End Games, that used d6s.
