Record of Agarest War. They advertised it as a hentai game. In actuality, it is a decent SRPG with dating sim elements.
...You think so? The only reference to it being hentai that I remember was the 'HOT PIX INCLUDED!' on the back of the box. (Yes, it really said that.)
I remember their PR department throwing out terms like "porn RPG". I bought the Limited edition or the "Naughty" edition as they called it. It also came with a "unique" mousepad.
And this:
They kinda did advertise it that way. I loved the game, though. I've already pre-ordered the sequel that is due out in three weeks.
I stand corrected.

But, a sequel...? I wanted to get Record of the Agarest War, but it's still like $30. However, I might pick up the sequel instead. What's the name of it? It totally went under my radar.
Don't worry, it went under everyone's radar. All I knew was that it had been confirmed for the West until two months ago when I was cruising Amazon when BAM! [http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_26?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=record+of+agarest+war+zero&sprefix=record+of+agarest+war+zero] I stumbled upon it. Regular edition is only 50$. Limited is retail.
Have to say that's one of the funniest ads I've ever seen.
"Sure it's got AWESOME gameplay and stuff, but who cares? Chicks with ice cream on their face!"

Now that's really targetting to an audience right there.

Off the top of my head, Bridge to Terabithia(lol spelling). Promised to be some fantasy otherworld fun time thing and it turned into an escapism fantasy drama thingy about kids.
You never read the book did you?

OT: I honestly can't think of something, but that might be due to the fact that I don't watch ads, ever.

You gotta love the "COMING soon" innuendo. I bet a few people were disappointed when they bought it. It is a 90+ hour RPG. 95% combat, 5% dating sim. I knew that going in, some people probably bought it expecting stuff like in the trailer.

A movie called 'The Fountain.' The TV trailer made it looks like an adventure film about the fountain of youth, but turned out to be about dealing with mortality in the modern day. Mind you, it was all the better for it.

The funniest thing about it was that everyone in the theater thought that they'd put the wrong movie on when it started.

There was an ad here in Australia, don't know if the rest of the world got it. It consisted of two children staring at the camera while their eyebrows spasmed wildly to the beat of some techno music. The ad annoyed the hell out of me and had absolutely no indication of what the product was up until the logo came up at the very end. I could never remember what it was for when I was explainging it to people back then, so it obviously wasn't doing its job well. It was for chocolate I think, Cadbury maybe.
Yeah, Cadbury are quite famous in the UK for their completely irrelevant advertising material. See also the gorilla playing drums, the pimped-up airport utility vehicle race to Queen's 'Don't Stop Me Now' and the 'Spots vs. Stripes' advert where spotty and striped sea creatures compete to pop balloons, whilst the Grandstand music plays in the background...and that is why Cadbury's chocolate is delicious.

OT: I remember the trailer for 'Land of the Lost' making the film out to be very funny, until I went and saw it and found that actually all the funny bits in the entire movie were in that trailer. It was horrible.

Compare The Market. Why the fuck are they showing a car insurance advert by having a Meerkat?
Also, it's not fucking funny. Shut up about that fucking Meerkat already.

It's all a little... otaku. I think that's the word.

I'm sure stuff like this exists of course, but I wouldn't have expected it to make a western release! Not that I've ever encountered an actual 'hentai rpg' before, mind.

Fox news. It claims to report the news. In reality most of it is either wrong or propaganda and the rest is made up in order to scare Americans.

The Fable 3 "morphing" weapon system. PM said that the weapons would morph as we use them, change shape as we kill things or bash thing, that it would be unique, original. HAH! It was nothing more than your basic weapon upgrade system from any game out there. You have a restricted amount of templates randomly given to you based on a half assed selection code. It is easily in the top 5 PM letdowns.

I bought it at GameStop like a man. It is quite tame. There are 5 generations. You choose someone to marry and have a kid at the end of each one. That kid is the next main character. Not really hentai at all. I don't really like anime. But I love the anime aesthetic when applied to video games. Weird, I know.

I once saw a display in a Borders that had Batman: The Brave and the Bold DVDs, a few kid friendly Batman comics, and... the Under the Red Hood DVD. If you aren't familiar with it, that's the story where Robin is brutally beaten to death by the Joker with a crowbar. In the very first scene. And then blown up.

I also saw the Killing Joke put with kid friendly Batman comics before. I pity the young children whose parents accidentally bought that for their kids! It's about Barbara Gordon, Comissioner Gordon's daughter, being shot by the Joker and paralyzed from the waist down, all as part of the Joker's scheme to drive Commissioner Gordon crazy... and it gets worse from there. Very good story, very well-written, but definitely not something you give to a little kid!

I was once walking behind a girl with pink tracky shorts that had "sexy" sprawling across in a glittering twisty font. I thought "sexy, eh? I'll just speed up and get a look.

I was lied to... bloody false advertisement, that! D:

Okay, something more serious:

I was once in a DVD store, and I noticed they had a "bromance" section. I'd been watching Friends and Scrubs reruns that day, so I was primed up for a nice Bromance based movie to round it off, when dead center in that section, I noticed one of the workers had put a copy of "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas." I'm not even kidding.

It started. But things on a biblical scale take time. You will be dead in about 60 years or less.
