Here's another shocking but welcome aspect about Little Witch Academia; No fanservice. In an anime. With an all-female cast. I didn't like the second OVA much though. Somehow it lacked the snappy energy of the first one.
I think it was just a typical sequel in that regard. The first one was novel because it was new and surprising. The sequel is basically more of the same, so it doesn't pull you in as much. I liked both a lot, but I somewhat agree with you.

OT: Star Wars, probably. Can't say I am alone in this, seemingly everyone is craving more Star Wars ever since the Episode VII hype machine really got going.

EDIT: I went so far as to give Rebels a shot and actually like it. Didn't see that coming.

I feel ya. I actually switched our weekly RPG group from Shadowrun to the new Fantasy Flight Star Wars RPG to sate the urges. Seems well received so far.

Binge watched Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Surprisingly good mix of action and story.

I ran a Kotor-era Sagas game back in college. That system is an unbalanced mess but it was fun.

Yeah I heard...less than kind things about the Saga system. The new one is pretty great, I absolutely love the dice system. And the core book might be the nicest RPG core book I've ever seen. Game moves well and adapts very nicely to spontaneous circumstances. As much as I loved the setting in Shadowrun, I found the game could get hopelessly bogged down in technical minutiae unless I invoked GM fiat to hand wave absolutely shit-tons of things, which begins to feel very sloppy after a while.

Saga didn't really have that problem. Most of its issues go back to its D&D 3.5 roots. Super unbalanced player power that made most non-Jedi characters basically useless. I have heard good things about the new system, but I am too involved with Pathfinder now to try it at the moment.

Maybe when I am between running campaigns.

Star Wars is the perfect sci-fi setting for tabletop gaming. Even the way the Millennium Falcon (and its clones) are designed lends itself to team-based space combat despite occupying one vehicle.

That's exactly what I heard about it, yeah. Basically that the game devolved into a shit-show as the PC's leveled, and any Jedi unbalanced everything completely, turning the campaign into "Jedi and entourage". Force seems a lot more balanced in the Fantasy Flight game. I'm using the Edge of the Empire core book and you can't even HAVE a Jedi, just a Force Sensitive who can do some basic stuff.

Yeah agreed. It helps that EVERYONE has some grounding in the universe from growing up in a Star Wars obsessed culture. If I send them to talk to a Hutt, they have a sense of what that means. If I say a Star Destroyer is on the horizon, they intuitively understand the threat. Try explaining to some non D&D native what an Umber Hulk is, or a non-Shadowrun native why a certain corporation is ominous.

"...and it turns out AZTECHNOLOGY is involved!"
Blank looks.
"...that's bad."
Blank looks.
"Sigh."

Well since Far Cry 4 is practically just a big expansion to game #3 i guess i can't count that... i am getting a curious amount of nostalgia recently for game #2
How much do you need to change in a game series before it is a new experience?
Damn it, now i am just getting depressed

I recently got my TESO character to level 20 and the game got a lot more interesting

I picked up a 10 Watt Marshall practice amp, because anything more would be overkill for my apartment, during after-holiday sales.

Now the only thing that sucks about my guitar sound is me!

Last game that I have finished and really enjoyed was Tales From the Borderlands. Sure, a TellTale game is a TellTale game, but that game had some really great 10/10 moments for me. Laughed my head off more than once.

Next up would be Undertale. Haven't played it all that much, but like Tales, the writing is brilliant, and I have a feeling that the game is going to be something special.

People play as non-Jedi? Intentionaly?

Actually, possibly the worst holdover from 3.X is the excuse that a space wizard has a limited spell list, but a soldier can swing their (insert weapon here) all day.

I have heard good things about the new system, but I am too involved with Pathfinder now to try it at the moment.
My only real lament about the new system--aside from not having played it enough--is that there are three huge books covering the different eras. It's been a really fun run so far. Also, one of my big complaints from the D20 version was that space battles were more frustrating than anything. I've only run FF games, but from the response of my players, space combat is like, waaaaay more satisfying.

So it'd look something like this?

Yeah there's a TON of supplements, a normal person would bankrupt themselves trying to get everything. I do wish the special dice weren't so expensive, I'd love a second set.

Of the three major books, Edge of the Empire feels the most essential, followed by Force and Destiny if someone in your group simply MUST be a Jedi and will not tolerate being a simple emerging force sensitive. Age of Rebellion is sort of the red headed stepchild. "Classic" Star Wars is covered quite ably by the other two volumes.

The friends we play with are huge pen and paper gamers...the husband has eye issues and cannot video game, so they've made tabletop gaming a passion. The wife has a collection of literally thousands of miniatures, and I know she was eyeballing some Star Wars ones last week after our first session. We might be up to our eyeballs in Bothans and Wampas soon.

The above should be an accurate representation. After all, it's an accurate representation of 3.5 magic users and non-magic users.

Anyway, I've heard similar things about the system.

If you have a smartphone, you might want to consider the app. It's been useful so far in that I have multiple connected Android devices I can pass around as needed. Also, it's harder to lose a tablet than dice.

I'd rather not pay for a dice rolling app, but considering it looks like I'll get a bunch of mileage out of the game, it seems like a solid enough investment.

I haven't played around with the supplements.

I thought about the app, and we might still go that direction, but there's something to be said about the physicality of rolling dice.

I'd like to get my hands on some of the adversary decks. I can see those being endlessly useful. And if you haven't already used it, there's a Star Wars crawl generator online that's fun for setting the tone at the beginning of a session.

I just discovered Rick and Morty, and I must say, it's sad to see what I've been missing. It has a really smart sense of humor, and it's filled the hole futurama left behind. I've been burning through the first season pretty quickly. I lost my shit at the mr. Meeseeks episode. The council of ricks was pretty great as well.
I've been wondering about that show. I've seen some amusing clips of it on youtube. I guess it's time to give a full episode a look.
I just caught up. It's really, really good. Maybe futurama levels of good. It does a good job of balancing lots of humor with some occasionally thoughtful and emotional moments. I highly recommend it.
Where do you watch it? Is there an online site that hosts episodes of it?

Hulu definitely has it. You can find the whole series hosted on Dailymotion as well. That's where I watched it.

I found that learning music theory, rather than being the tedious slog through unhelpful and orchestral-centric subject I thought it was going to be, is actually ridiculously interesting and a real joy to learn. I've been doing a load of cool music-related stuff on my course currently like sound design and recording but surprisingly it's the theory that's engrossing.

As a side thing, I recently started watching Outlaw Star and while I'm neither here nor there on the plot or characters, the designs of the worlds and especially the spaceships are just fantastic. They remind me so much of the wonderful designs of ships and such that sci-fi used to indulge in, especially in the art on say, book covers for example, from around the 70s and 80s and Outlaw Star has exactly that kind of aesthetic and I'm totally digging it.

Oh god, I have to find the crawl generator. XD

I feel ya on the dice. I have a two gallon (I think?) tupperware thing full of dice, in part because I lose them and in part because large quantities of dice are especially satisfying to throw around. But in this case, my frugalness won out. I mean, I even own a couple of special sets of dice, but they're more novelty.

And yeah, the adversary decks actually look like they could come in quite handy.

My first theory instructor wasd really into introducing different styles and sort of teaching us through the method of what was similar and different. We did learn about choiral voices and stuff, but not to the point that people tuned out. It was kind of cool, because he engaged everyone from the classical pianist to the two guys in the metal band.
