Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. was surprisingly good, I enjoyed the campaign especially with the leveling system that unlocked new planes and weapons, if more people played the multiplayer I'm sure it would be something I would play more.

Gears of War 2 and Mass Effect 2.
Closest it comes for me. Simply judged on the basis of how many times did I go "I'll go to bed after this level. ..After this level. ...One more level." And so forth.
ME2 I expected to be good. It was awesome.
GoW2, I'll be honest, I wasn't sure. Can't remember why, but I gave in to the fact that pretty much everyone else thought it was brilliant and my dislike was unfounded, and was delightfully pleased at how intense, fun, well made yet also sometimes terrifying (Carmine, may you rest in peace) the game was. I know I'm not the first saying good stuff about it, but I finished it an hour ago =p

Fifa '96 on the PC

Why? Because you could BUTTERFLY tackle !!! Yes it was an instant red card but it was always fun to do :D. Never acquired a football game since though, they are all the same with near identical graphics to this one(only with a little toning here and there) and without butterfly tackles >.<

OT, I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES 1N IT!!!1. When the demo ran out I nearly threw my controller at my screen in rage it was that fun, especially with the music. Honestly didn't expect that from an arcade game, and the cheapest arcade game I've seen (90MS points which is about £0.60/$1)

Deadly Premonition. I read all the negative press about it, got curious, bought it, and had the most fun with it I've ever had with a game in awhile. It's the quirkiness that got me.
Why did it take 3 pages for this to be mentioned whereas Portal (AKA The most overhyped puzzle game since Tetris and Columns) has been mentioned at least 3 times. How can one be surprised that they like it if every reviewer basically felates Valve when this game is mentioned? Isn't NOT liking it more shocking? (To be fair, I don't like Portal and am kind of tired of hearing about it. But that's just me)
Actually, to be honest, a lot of the games being mentioned on this thread are surprisingly mainstream. I don't think I've read any yet, other then the Punisher and Killing Floor, that weren't hyped pre-release.

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune. It came with my PS3 and I didn't know what to expect as I'd never heard of it before. When I actually played it I was blown away. And then I replayed it when the trophy patch came out.

Mount & Blade - Haven't gotten warband but then again I don't care about multi-player. The best part of that game is ordering your troops to hold - you ride out alone with a bow and take down some of the enemies elite units. Then you ride back to your troop line and join them on foot. Then slowly march forward together and mow everyone down. Its so freakin awesome.

Lost Planet - I haven't gotten the second one - but the first one blew me away. I freakin loved that game. Best part was being in a walker vs a boss and before the walker dies you crawl out and pull the gun from the damaged walker and finish the boss off by hand. So freakin awesome.

Mass Effect - I first played it for about 10 minutes and got bored. Then it sat on my shelf for 2 years. Then I made myself pick it back up and I beat it to completion and wished it never had of ended. I bought #2 a couple weeks ago and its still in the shrink wrap - I don't want to start it because I know it will end. I know how silly that sounds.

Disgaea - Silly little game - cheesy story line - but I currently have 200 hours played on my DS version and over 150 hours on Disgaea 3 for my PS3. Wildly addictive with a HUGE amount of options. Everyone always loved FF Tactics - but the Disgaea series blows it out of the water.

Deamons Souls - You die during the tutorial of the game. I have destroyed 2 controllers in frustration. This game will make you rage till you throw your big screen off a building and curse the human race for existing. It is also probably the greatest game of this generation.
