Samurai Western, I saw it at my video rental store for a few years then finally picked it up and damn that was an enjoyable week.

I gotta go with The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction. I got a demo of it, thinking it would be average at best and I was surprised to find it totally rocked my socks off, so I went out and bought it and have never looked back.

I rather enjoyed Too Human for a month on end. And I will stand by my decision that it was a decent game at least, if you take the bugs out of the game at least.

Another would have been The Force Unleashed. I don't know why. Guess I just find it fun destroying things in increasing different ways constantly.
In all seriousness, do you literally enjoy fighting the cameras? Because that isn't supposed to be "gameplay".

I was shocked that Braid's text based storyline was literally one of the most interesting and well thought out piece of literature I have ever read.

X-Men Origins Wolverine was pretty fun =] I agree

[eyes other comments] FFXIII and RE5 got pretty good reviews but less so from many people in forums it seems. haven't tried the first but the latter was a lotta fun in co-op

I'm gonna have to second Too Human.

The camera is a bit stupid but just keep your finger near the button that centers it. No problem at all.

And that valkyrie animation? I'm frankly getting a bit tired of people whining that it's really really long and unskippable. I think Yahtzee put that in his review just to be an ass, so he could see how mindless his followers are. That animation takes like two seconds, top. Again, no problem at all.

I gave it a fair chance and really enjoyed it.
Whereas I've given some games that are more popular around here several fair chances and still think they're shit.

I look forward to the sequel.

Gundam Crossfire. Utterly poo reviews, but I more fun with it than GTA4. I really want a new Gundam game for PS3 (not of the Dynasty Warrior variety).

The last I can recall is Psychonauts. I wasn't expecting much from a platformer on the PC. Oh, but the sheer charm it oozed... it bewitched me neigh instantly.

After being universally panned as terrible, I played Alpha Protocol and really enjoyed it. The game play mechanics were pretty solid and I only had a few glitches but the social interactions and different choices the game gives you are just fun and I was very pleasantly surprised.
That's an awesome game, I really enjoyed it. Anyways, I thought Clive Barker's Jericho was very, very fun. All of it's problems really didn't annoy me.

Well, at the time, I thought Portal was "shockingly" good (this was before it was overhyped) in that I expected it to be an ordinary puzzle game, when instead it had far more depth. That game was my first step in my conversion to the Valve-ian faith, in fact.

Also, after being somewhat unimpressed and extremely confused after finishing the COD modern warfare 2 campaign (btw, does anyone know who the hell that dead "vip" was) I decided to play COD4. I was very impressed by the game. The sniper level, the sinking ship, every level created a unique, awesome new setting with unique gameplay and interesting characters. I can honestly not think of a single bad level from the game... okay, maybe some portions of two or so levels, but overall I was surprised.

Naruto:path of the Ninja 2.
I wanted a new JRPG to pass the time, so i got it just for the heck of it.
It was a blast.
The fighting was fun, the characters were cool, story was decent, and once you beat the Game you get an Anbu character that you can completely Customize their Abilitys and Skills.
It was a great game.

Resonance of Fate, After FF13 put a terrible taste in my mouth after renting it, I was instantly looking for a RPG to make up for it. I didn't know a thing about it until someone on Screwattack mentioned that the main characters actually all use guns, been hooked ever since.

Origins is the only movie game (other than Spiderman 2) to actually be fun and I did not expect AA to be fun because no other superhero game has been that fucking awesome.
Play Escape from Butcher Bay and I'll bet there will be now three great movie based games.

OT: The Void. best.Game.Ever.Made.
It's underrated unfortunately, but I recommend everyone to play it right now.
Oh, and it's a PC exclusive released in 2009. And it has great graphics.

During a gaming challenge, I had to buy a fighting game. I hate fighting games.

I picked up Street Fighter IV.

It took me a month to put it back down. I still suck, but MAN was it infuriatingly fun.

There was a time about 10 years ago when I decided, after some serious reservations, to borrow a computer game from a friend of mine. I was not really into his kind of games, and I secretly thought that he was trying to get me into a silly nerd game that was totally out of my interest. Actually, I left the game behind, presumably on accident, the first time he offered to let me borrow it. I covered that up though by saying I had "forgot", and I proceeded to pick it up the next day and play it later that evening.

That "nerd game" I borrowed was named Baldur's Gate.

Freedom Fighters and Alpha Protocol were both rather good, to bad we are never going to get a sequel on ether of them.

For me the most surprising quality game was Portal. I had been exposed to the ridiculous amounts of hype, but my relentless cynicism refused to accept it, until I actually played it and was stupefied by how challenging, fun and absurdly entertaining it was. Earlier than that however was Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. I expected it to be simply be an Age of Empires clone (which it was) and something to feed my Star Wars addiction, but it turned into just as massive a time sink as Age of Empires II was.
